If you follow me on Instagram, you know that way back when I purchased the Anastasia Beverly Hills Subculture Palette and quickly sent it back. Thankfully the company refunded me with no issues. I’m sure by now you all know the story. Lots of people received beautiful palettes. Some of us didn’t. My brush lightly (and I do mean lightly, I didn’t dig my brush into the pan like many have implied) touched a few shadows and they quickly turned to dust. Obviously none of it stuck to my lids. It was a nightmare. I had this beautiful palette sitting in front of me and I couldn’t even use it. After I had returned it I was tempted to try and track down a better version. But after reading more reviews about the ‘better’ palettes still having some issues, I decided to just let it go.

Then last week I stumbled upon this palette on Instagram. Could a $10.00 ‘dupe’ really compare to the infamous Subculture palette? It surprises me to say that it does! The Subculture Palette swatched so much nicer than the Retro Love Palette. Subculture was also much more pigmented. But you know what? Retro Love actually performed better. Well, for me anyway. I did have to build up a lot of the shadows to achieve the intensity that I wanted. However, they applied and blended nicely. I was able to create a look that I was extremely happy with. With minimal effort.

So while the real thing didn’t work out for me, I’m happy to have found an alternative. You can see a look I created with the Retro Love Palette below. For this look I used Icon on my lid, Flower Power in my crease, Rock N Roll on my outer lid and outer crease, Free Love on my lower lash line, and Psychedelic on my brow bone. I also threw a little Rebel in there somewhere.

Overall, I’m really happy with my purchase. This was a really nice find. And for just $10.00!

Swatches: Lip Contour, Liquid Matte Lipstick, Lip Strobe

Being the liquid lipstick lover that I am, you’d think I would have tried something from Huda Beauty by now. I guess nothing really caught my eye. That is until I started seeing these cute tins floating around Instagram. Seriously, how cute are these tins?

I ended up getting a few of these and will be reviewing them separately. Today I’ll be talking about the Huda Beauty Contour & Strobe Lip Set in the shades Trophy Wife / Shameless. Each set contains a mini Liquid Matte Lipstick, a mini Lip Strobe, and a full size Lip Contour. The Trophy Wife Liquid Matte Lipstick is a beautiful rose wood shade. The Shameless Lip Strobe is a chameleon sheer base encapsulating gold and pink pearls. You can use these products individually or paired together.

These applied beautifully! I was really surprised at just how nicely they applied. The Liquid Matte Lipstick was a little different from most I’ve tried. It leaves my lips slightly tacky afterward. However, it didn’t leave my lips feeling dry so it’s definitely a welcoming change. I did detect a rather strong scent. Vanilla? Fruity? I can’t quite put my finger on it, but it doesn’t linger so it’s not a problem for me. I definitely notice it during application though. After topping the Liquid Matte Lipstick off with the Lip Strobe my lips felt much better. My lips still felt slightly tacky, but they felt nice and moisturized.

These do last quite a while, but don’t hold up so well to food and drink. Most of the Lip Strobe came off while I was drinking my coffee, but the Liquid Matte Lipstick was still going strong. That is until I ate. But the same could be said about most liquid lipsticks. You can see the Huda Beauty Contour & Strobe Lip Set in Trophy Wife / Shameless below.

Overall, I’m very impressed with this cute little set. These shades compliment each other beautifully and make for such a glamorous lip! I’m planning to wear this during my holiday festivities. And $25.00 is such a great deal considering the products you get. Along with the reusable tin. Which I have on display in my bedroom.

Have you purchased any of the Huda Beauty Contour & Strobe Lip Sets?

Kiesque Liquid Palisade

Kiesque Liquid Palisade

Kiesque Liquid Palisade

Can you believe how fast this year went by? I think I had a pretty great year here at Midwest Glam. Even with everything that has happened in my personal life I still managed to keep things going. Yet I can’t figure out how I can be caught up and so far behind at the same time. There’s still so much I’d like to post before the year is up. I was hoping to do a special Blogiversary post. I’d like to do a 2017 favorites. I still haven’t done my updated makeup storage post. The new setup in the new place is really nice! And I’ve only been living here for a full 6 months now! I’ll have to make these a priority. Here’s to hoping I can get them done before the year is up.

Today I’m going to talk about this sweet giveaway I won a little over a week ago. I’m really excited because I never win giveaways. I’ve entered enough of them, but over the years this is probably only my second win. It was a collaboration between Kiesque and ittse. I’m going to split this giveaway win up into two posts. Today will focus on the goodies I received from Kiesque.

I received two products from Kiesque. I received their Liquid Palisade Original and French Manicure. This fast-drying liquid protects cuticles from stains during nail polish application. You apply it before you apply your nail polish and simply peel it away afterward for a mess-free manicure. They claim it’s like painter’s tape for your nails. The Original has a thicker brush that keeps your cuticles polish-free. The French Manicure has a thinner brush that helps you create the perfect French tip or custom nail art. It sounds interesting, huh?

First, there are a few things you need to know. I have incredibly short nails. I don’t have a whole lot to work with so I can’t always get fancy with the nail art. Also, I’m pretty bad at painting my nails. I’m pretty good at keeping polish off of my cuticles, but sometimes I leave too much space and my nails end up looking half painted. So I was pretty excited to give these products a try.

Kiesque Liquid Palisade

  • The instructions suggest applying a generous coat. It will take longer to dry, but they claim it will be easier to remove in one peel. I only had to apply one coat. I’m not sure if it’s just that I have tiny fingernails or what. But I didn’t have any issues removing it.
  • It does take quite a while to dry. Even with a single coat. However, it’s worth the wait.
  • You can easily tell once it’s dry. It changes from a pale pink color to a deeper pink/purple. See my photo for reference. At this point you can shape it however you want. You can push it back further with a manicure stick in case you got too much on your nail.
  • Once you apply your polish, remove the Liquid Palisade. You have to do this while the polish is still wet. I didn’t have any issues and my polish didn’t smear.
  • If you’re going to create a French tip, you have to create a ‘tab’ by applying some of the Liquid Palisade on your finger so that you can easily remove it after polish application.
  • The bottles are very light and flimsy. They do knock over easily. However, I didn’t experience any spilling.
  • For $14.00 a bottle you really don’t get a whole lot of product. It might not be so bad if you can get away with one application per nail. But if you have to apply a few coats you could probably go through a bottle pretty fast.

Overall, I really enjoyed both products. I found them to be very easy to work with. My only issue would have to be the bottles. I wish they were a bit more sturdy. But it’s not enough to keep me from purchasing another bottle once I run out. I’ll just have to be extra careful with the bottles during application.

Have you heard of Liquid Palisade from Kiesque? Is this something you would try out?

*I received these products from a giveaway. I was not paid or compensated in any way to write this review. All opinions are completely my own.
