Back when I purchased The Ordinary Serum Foundation I also picked up a few other products from the brand. One of those products is The Ordinary High-Adherence Silicone Primer. I always seem to run out of primer at the worst possible time. I thought it would be nice to have a different one to use as backup. That’s really the only reason I purchased it.

The Ordinary High-Adherence Silicone Primer is described as a mattifying and blurring primer with advanced adaptive silicones which help makeup adhere to the skin. It claims to blur imperfections, help makeup last longer, all while leaving your skin with a matte finish.

I didn’t detect much of a scent. It was in fact non-greasy. I had read that another blogger had great results when she pat the primer into her skin. Ever since that’s how I’ve been applying my primer. I’ve never experienced any issues using this method of application. The primer evened out my skin nicely and my makeup applied beautifully. I actually really love the way my makeup looks when I use this primer. I think it does a pretty great job at evening out my skin for a more airbrushed effect. Now that I’m working I can say that it holds up pretty well for a typical work day. By the time I get home my makeup is still going strong.

The Ordinary High-Adherence Silicone Primer

Overall, I’d have to say this primer is a keeper! I really only purchased it to have on hand in case I ran out of my go-to primers. I didn’t expect to love it so much that I’d add it to my rotation. As for the other products I purchased? I wasn’t really a fan. Truth be told I wasn’t exactly sold on this primer at fist either. Thankfully I really got the chance to put it to the test once I started working. And now it’s one of my favorite primers.

Have you tried anything from The Ordinary? What are your favorite products?

Swatch

Hey look! It’s a photo of me without my hand by my head! All jokes aside, back when I posted about the Wet n Wild Goth-O-Graphic Collection I mentioned that there was just one winner out of the entire collection. That was the MegaGlo Loose Highlighting Powder in Moon Tears.

I was really disappointed with that collection. I was excited when it first launched, but that all changed once I had the chance to test the products. I ended up setting Moon Tears aside to test further and never really got around to it. One day while getting ready for work I looked around my vanity for a subtle highlighter and spotted Moon Tears. I thought to myself ‘Why not?’

I still really love the packaging. The skull on the cover is pretty cool. The highlighter itself is beautiful! It was subtle enough to wear to work, but stood out enough to show in my photo. After the first few uses I just sort of kept it in rotation. It complimented one of my favorite go-to looks, but most importantly it lasted my entire shift. So I decided to keep it in rotation. At least for a little while. You can see the Wet n Wild MegaGlo Loose Highlighting Powder in Moon Tears in action below.

Overall, I still say this was the winner of that collection. I wish I had purchased just Moon Tears instead of wasting $39.99 for the entire set, but what’s done is done and I’ve learned from my mistake. However, I’m glad that I at least got use out of one of the products.

My go-to work look

June 7, 2018 | Beauty | 12 Comments »

Since I started work I’ve been doing my makeup on a regular basis. Prior to working I would only do my makeup if I went out or if I was working on a blog post. In between I’d let my skin breathe. My skin doesn’t get much breathing time these days, but on the plus side I’m getting a lot of practice in. I have a few go-to looks. This look is one of them. I like it because it’s super easy to put together and doesn’t take a lot of time. I also think it’s perfect for Summer! One thing I’d like to point out is the winged liner. No, I don’t always sit here for 45-60 minutes trying to complete this look with winged liner that may just ruin my entire look should I sneeze. Or breathe too heavy. If I have the extra time and I’m feeling confident, I’ll go in with my Tattoo Liner. I actually prefer this look with it, but it’s still bright and pretty without. Without winged liner this look takes anywhere from 20-30 minutes to complete. Here is a list of products I used to complete this look.

My Go-To Work Look

For my eye look I used Shell and Aura (LC) on my lid, Starfish (Kylie) and Rebirth (LC) in my crease, Venus (LC) in my outer crease, First Class (Kylie) in my inner corner, Island Girl (Kylie) on my lower lash line, Aloha (Kylie) on my brow bone, and a little Icon (LC) thrown in. I know it might sound weird, but somehow it works. I think The Venus Palette alone would be a bit much for work. The use of the Take Me On Vacation Palette tones it down a lot more. I still say it’s a great every day palette. But I love me some color so I had to reach for the Venus Palette to really liven this look up a bit more. I wouldn’t say it’s a neutral look, but it’s not so bold and in your face either.

These are the products that I’ve been reaching for the most. I switch up my eye look a bit here and there, but for the most part this is my go-to. Sometimes I’ll complete my look with a spritz or two of Mario Badescu Facial Spray With Aloe, Herbs and Rosewater or Fresh Rose Floral Toner.

Scentbird

Finally, just before heading out the door I spray on a little perfume. At the moment I’m loving Derek Lam 10 Crosby Drunk On Youth which was sent to me from the kind people at Scentbird. You can read all about it here.

I was planning to do new looks for the blog and photograph them before work. But I sometimes get a little heavy-handed when I know I have to take photos. I want to make sure that the product shows on camera. I just don’t think it would be appropriate for work. So I’m planning my looks around my days off. Which also happens to be my going out days. This way it’ll take a little stress off of me on days that I do have to work. I hate the added stress of having to plan out a look for the blog, figuring out how to tone it down, photograph it, and then drive to work without being a nervous wreck. If I do this not only will it make my life a whole lot easier, but it’ll give me 2 days to work on looks with 1 day left to give my skin the break it needs.

Who would have thought that in the midst of stressing over how to balance family life, housework, cooking healthy meals, exercise, a new job, overcoming my fear of driving, wondering how to keep Midwest Glam going, that I’d find inspiration to do just that? Keep Midwest Glam going! I’m suddenly full of ideas. Not a whole lot of time to execute them, but I’ll get there!

*I received some of these products complimentary. I was not paid or compensated in any way to write this review. All opinions are completely my own.

Welcome
