it is my birthday

‘It is a statement of fact.’

I don’t usually make a big deal about my birthday. Especially since it’s my unlucky month. But my Thursday post happened to fall on my birthday this year and it felt weird posting a review and not even acknowledge it. So there you have it. It is my birthday. I figured I’d lighten the mood a bit by sharing one of my favorite scenes from The Office.

Sephora 2018 Birthday Gift

This year’s Sephora birthday gifts are a Bite Beauty Lip Set, 250 bonus points, or this GlamGlow Set. The GlamGlow Set contains a mini Supermud Clearing Treatment and mini Glowstarter Mega Illuminating Moisturizer in Nude Glow. I usually opt for the lip sets so this year I decided to try something different.

Have you gotten your birthday gift this year? What did you pick?

Swatches

Midwest Glam has been up and running since 2013. I’d like to think I’ve come a long way since the earlier days. I’m not saying I’m where I want to be now. I’ll always strive to be better. But looking at my photos, swatches, and looks from the earlier days has me cringing. Some were so bad I’ve honestly considered taking down the post. But I won’t do that. We all start somewhere. I kind of like looking back to see how much has changed. Even if it pains me.

Rather then take down my cringe-inducing posts I thought it might be fun to sort of revisit them. The photos won’t be as great because the product has been used, but I can still change it up a bit. I can take better swatches. I can redo those looks. Maybe use a heavier hand? Really go for it this time. Again, I’m not saying this is IT or perfect in my eyes. But it’s my idea of a much better attempt.

Anyway, now that it’s officially Fall I’ve been eying all of the Fall palettes. I swear they can slap the words pumpkin spice on anything and I’d buy it. But I’m trying not to buy into the hype. Pumpkin spice donut? I’ll take two please. Pumpkin spice palette? Um… pretty sure I already own a bunch of orange, red, and brown shades. So I went digging through my collection and sure enough I had plenty of Fall inspired sets/palettes. One of my favorites being the SauceBox Autumn Goddess Set.

You can see the original post here. It’s a really pretty set that contains 5 eyeshadows. The pans are pretty big. I have them in a Z-Palette alongside some other single eyeshadows. What I like about this set is that the first shadow can also be used as a highlighter. Which is how I use it whenever I reach for this set. You can see my updated look below.

For this look I used the 1st shade on my lid, I used the 2nd, 3rd, and 4th shades in my crease, I used the 5th shade on my outer lid/crease, I used the 4th and 5th shade on my lower lash line, and the 1st shade was also used on the inner corner of my eye as well as my highlighter (on my face).

The Autumn Goddess Set is easily one of my favorite Fall sets. The colors scream Fall. They are nicely pigmented and apply and blend like a dream. SauceBox recently had a restock for a short time. It’s currently sold out, but they seem to restock from time to time. I got lucky a few years back and was able to scoop it up during one of their restocks.

What are your favorite Fall sets/palettes?

Derma E Hydrating Facial Wipes

Derma E Hydrating Facial Wipes

I’ve talked about facial wipes on the blog a few times. I really only mention them if they really wow me. I keep a bunch on hand to remove swatches and lipstick, but I rarely use them on my face. I hate the way most wipes leave my skin afterward. Ever since being diagnosed with rosacea I’ve had to lay off my favorite wipes until my skin is healed. I’m not supposed to exfoliate right now. I’d hate to waste one of those wipes only using one side. So I had to find a more gentle wipe to use in the meantime. Then I remembered I had this lovely package sitting in my drawer.

I’ve been using the Derma E Hydrating Facial Wipes for the past month to remove my eye makeup and lipstick. And you know what? I’m in love! The package contains 25 wipes. They claim to quickly and conveniently remove makeup, oil, and impurities while hydrating, softening, and smoothing the skin. They are infused with hyaluronic acid and superfruit extracts. Each wipe is 100% compostable and the outer packaging is 100% recyclable.

So why do I love them so much? Like I mentioned before, they don’t leave an icky film behind after using them. I don’t feel the need to quickly wash my face after removing my eye makeup. Even though I should because I seriously look ridiculous. But when I’m home I’m usually bouncing around from room to room doing at least 10 different things at once. It’s a relief to not have to worry about my skin feeling gross or my eyes stinging/burning because all I wanted to do was remove my eye makeup. They’re also super gentle for the eye and mouth area. I don’t have to rub too hard. My makeup comes off so easily. And they smell so fresh and clean! I detect a light cucumber scent. No strong chemical scent.

I really hope Derma E keeps these wipes around. They’re one of the very few I can honestly say that I love. It’s also a huge plus that Derma E is much easier to get my hands on. I’ve spotted their products in quite a few stores. I don’t recall if I’ve ever seen the wipes though. I’ll have to keep an eye out for sure. In the meantime I definitely plan to purchase a few of these online so that I have enough on hand.

Are you a fan of facial wipes? Which ones are your favorite?

Note: You can also find these wipes on the Shop Hush app. They are $7.00 there and ship for free!

*I received these products complimentary. I was not paid or compensated in any way to write this review. All opinions are completely my own.
