2018 Favorites

This is easily one of my favorite posts to write up every year. My favorite products of the year. Even though some of the products from my 2017 Favorites are still getting tons of use this year. What I like to do is run through my posts throughout the entire year and gather up my 10 favorite products. It’s a lot more difficult than it sounds. But I managed to narrow my list down to 10 favorites. Let’s take a look!

ColourPop Ooh La La! Palette

ColourPop Ooh La La! Palette
I told you this palette was going to make it to my 2018 Favorites. It’s such a beautiful little palette. The shades all compliment each other beautifully. They are incredibly pigmented. And the looks I created are easily some of my favorites.

Bath By Bex CBD Bath Bombs

Bath By Bex CBD Bath Bombs & Life Flower CBD Bath Bombs
2018 was year of the CBD for me. I started getting into it toward the end of 2017 right around the time my husband had surgery. I was a nervous wreck and my anxiety was at an all time high. My husband actually got me some products to try and I’ve been experimenting ever since. While I love the effects of the oils and edibles, the bath bombs are a real treat. There’s nothing I love more than a nice, relaxing, hot bath. These CBD bath bombs take the relaxation part to a whole new level. They make for the most relaxing bath ever! It relaxes my muscles by easing aches, pains, and tension. And it helps me to sleep better at night. If you take anything away from this list, let it be these bath bombs. There are many places that make them, but these 2 are my favorites so far.

Wet n Wild Highlighting Bar in Platinum

Wet n Wild Highlighting Bar in Platinum
I was really excited to see that Wet n Wild added to their Gold Bar Highlighter Collection. I remember going everywhere to try and track them down. Once I had the chance to test them all I found that the Platinum Bar was my favorite. It has been one of my most reached for highlighters ever since.

Derma E Hydrating Facial Wipes

Derma E Hydrating Facial Wipes
This year I was diagnosed with rosacea. I had to replace a lot of my skin care products. Wipes especially. These are incredibly gentle on my super sensitive skin and they smell so nice! I now have a drawer full of them.

The Ordinary High-Adherence Silicone Primer

The Ordinary High-Adherence Silicone Primer
This year I finally got around to testing out some of The Ordinary products. Some of them worked out and others didn’t. This primer on the other hand really impressed me. I know a lot of people say that they don’t feel like primers make much of a difference. But I swear this primer helps my makeup to go on smoother and makes it look more even. All for just under $5.00!

e.l.f. Heart Defensor Highlighter Palette

e.l.f. Heart Defensor Highlighter Palette
Boy did it ever take me a while to finally get my hands on this highlighter! I can definitely see what the fuss was all about. Everything about this highlighter was a hit. The packaging and the pigmentation. It currently sits in my most reached for drawer alongside the majority of these items.

Jouer Lip Topper in Sweetheart

Jouer Lip Topper in Sweetheart
This year Jouer has become a favorite brand of mine. I found myself drawn to quite a few of their new products. If I had to narrow it down to one favorite it would have to be the Lip Topper in Sweetheart. It’s the most gorgeous red with pink and gold flecks. I reach for it often.

Esqido The Unisyn Collection

Esqido The Unisyn Collection
I could hardly contain my excitement when I opened this beautiful package. These lashes are gorgeous! I love the packaging too. Not only do they display the beauty that is these lashes, but they slide in and out making access that much easier. Photographing these lashes was a lot of fun.

Bad Habit Athena Palette

Bad Habit Beauty Athena Palette
When I first heard about this palette it was sold out for a while. Once it came back in stock I ordered it. I think it’s my favorite Bad Habit Beauty Palette. I was really impressed with the quality of the shadows. They’re so pigmented and they apply and blend beautifully. Hard to believe that it’s just $14.00. My review states $12.00. It has since gone up in price. But even with the increase it’s still a great price.

Sky Organics Organic Rosewater Facial Mist

Sky Organics Organic Rosewater Facial Mist
Another product that I heard was great for rosacea is rose water. I wasn’t sure which one to try and then I happened to stumble upon this one from Sky Organics. I apply it after cleansing in the morning and night. It does wonders for flareups instantly soothing my sensitive skin.

CeraVe Hydrating Facial Cleanser
I had to add a bit of a bonus favorite. Like I mentioned earlier, I was diagnosed with rosacea this year and had to replace a lot of my skin care products. A lot of my go-to cleansers were causing more harm than good. I have to admit that it took me a long time to get used to this cleanser. It’s highly recommended for those of us with certain skin conditions such as rosacea. Once I got used to it I found that I actually love it. I feel like it can be a little heavy at times, but it removes makeup all while being incredibly gentle. It doesn’t dry out my skin. It’s a lot easier to purchase since most stores carry it and I can even use coupons.

*I received some of these products complimentary. I was not paid or compensated in any way to write this post. All opinions are completely my own.

Empties: 3

Purchased By Me/PR Sample

The last empties post of 2018! I’m hoping for many more next year. I’d really like to try and use up more product.

Smashbox X-Rated Mascara

Smashbox X-Rated Mascara
I received this sample sometime this year. I don’t know where or when exactly, but I know it was this year. I ended up falling in love with this mascara. It took me a while to get the hang of the wand, but once I did I swear it did wonders for both my upper and lower lashes! The time finally came to purchase a full size and… apparently it has been discontinued? I can’t find it anywhere! That really sucks because I think this could have been the one.

Repurchase: I would have if it were still available.

Yves Saint Laurent The Shock Volumizing Mascara

Yves Saint Laurent The Shock Volumizing Mascara $29.00
After I sadly tossed my empty X-Rated Mascara into the trash I reached into my sample drawer and picked this one up. The packaging is all kinds of fancy even for a sample! She sure did photograph well! I ended up with at least 3 great shots of this sample alone. I was really impressed with the volume this gave me. It also lengthened my lashes really well. It almost looked like I was wearing false lashes. After my first use I noticed a bit of clumping. Suddenly the brush didn’t separate my lashes as nicely. The brush does pick up a lot of product. After the first use it doesn’t spread out as evenly.

Repurchase: I wish I could say yes. The first application was perfect! But for that price tag I had better get a perfect application every single time!

Tatcha The Water Cream

Tatcha The Water Cream $68.00
I swear this was the world’s tiniest sample! I really hate samples that come in these cardboard type packages because you just know you’re only getting one use. But I guess Tatcha figured one use was all you needed to fall in love with this cream. And at least the cardboard is really pretty. Anyway, the small packet inside barely had enough product to cover my entire face. But I swear my skin never looked so good! My skin looked radiant! My redness calmed down and for once my bare skin looked… even. It truly is an impressive cream.

Repurchase: Yes!

Sky Organics Organic Rosewater Facial Mist

Sky Organics Organic Rosewater Facial Mist $14.95
After being diagnosed with rosacea early on in the year, I did a lot of research to see what would help soothe my sensitive skin. Rose water kept popping up. When I stumbled upon this bottle from Sky Organics I just had to give it a try. I love their products so I knew it would be a winner. It’s a really nice sized bottle and a pretty one at that. It smells amazing! But most importantly it soothes my skin without drying it out. I spray it on after cleansing both morning and night. I also reach for it any time I feel a flareup coming on. It instantly soothes my skin leaving me feeling cool and refreshed.

Repurchase: Yes!

Life Flower Anxiety Elixir

Life Flower Anxiety Elixir $25.00
My experience with Life Flower didn’t start off on a positive note, but it definitely ended on a positive note. After that Charcoal Aura Bath Bomb disaster the company kindly sent me a few of their more popular products to try out. I felt horrible writing a negative review and while I try my best to keep things positive, that bath bomb really was a disaster! And I will always be completely honest with you guys. Anyway, thankfully the other products turned out to be amazing. I ended up passing the Insomnia Elixir onto someone who ended up loving it. I then went and purchased the Anxiety Elixir to try out as it seemed like something I could really benefit from. Both my husband and I use the Anxiety Elixir. He actually uses it to help him sleep and he swears it helps. I purchased it in hopes it would help ease my nerves throughout the day and found that it helped relax me so much that it did make me sleepy. I don’t apply it too heavily during the day so that I can stay alert and get my work done. At night I apply a bit more and within a half hour I’m ready to sleep. It has a semi-strong herbal scent, but it fades nicely as it sinks into your skin. Despite the semi-strong scent I find it to be extremely relaxing! I apply it on my inner wrists and a bit on my neck so that I can breathe it in. I’m able to breathe more deeply and end up feeling relaxed and just… content.

Repurchase: Yes! This little roller ball is a miracle worker! I’m planning to get one for my mother-in-law too.

6 Year Blogiversary Update

Ask Me Anything

Last month I mentioned in my 6 Year Blogiversary post that if I got enough questions I’d follow up with the answers. I know I mentioned the possibility of a video follow up, but that isn’t going to happen. I must have made a dozen videos and cringed through every single one of them. I thought weeding through hundreds of selfies was tough to do. Well, watching myself on video was tougher. In the end I just couldn’t do it. I’m sorry. Maybe one day I’ll have one too many margaritas and give it another go. Until then here are the answers to your questions!

Do you like “the dong”?
Hahaha! I know who asked this. Yes. Yes I do.

Why don’t you try YouTube out.
You know, I get asked this a lot! From family and friends. At some point I actually considered it because I thought it was what the people wanted. But you know what? It’s not what I want. I’m a blogger. I love to write. It’s who I am.

What’s your favorite and your least favorite makeup brand??
I would have to say ColourPop. They’re easily both my favorite and least favorite brand. They have so many great products and offer them at such an affordable price. They aren’t afraid of color. They do some pretty interesting collabs. I feel like they’re always keeping things interesting with the new product launches. The downside? They’ve hurt me on numerous occasions. I can’t even tell you how many times I’ve received broken products and have had to reach out to customer service only to be be given the run around. Thankfully I haven’t had any issues lately. But you never forget the ones who have hurt you.

What are your top 3 favorite lip products?
It Cosmetics Je Ne Sais Quoi Lip Treatment

Besides your makeup blog, what other hobbies do you have?
Besides my blog I love to cook. Baking specifically. I would bake every single day if I wasn’t so tempted to eat the stuff I bake. I also love walking. I know it sounds lame, but I have a lot of fun going for walks. Sometimes I’ll talk and vent my way through it and other times I’ll just walk quietly admiring the scenery. There are also a few games I like to play on my phone.

If you could go shopping with anyone, dead or alive, who would it be?
This is a really good question! I would have to say my husband. Probably not the most exciting answer, but he’s my number one choice. Sometimes I like to venture off on my own and will call him to meet up when I’m done. And he doesn’t get offended that I’d rather be alone. On the times I could use a little help he’s always there to help me weigh out the pros and cons. And he’ll convince me to get the thing I’m eying.

If I had to choose another person it would have to be my best friend. We’ve never even met in person, but we’ve been friends for well over a decade! We do have a lot of fun online shopping together. So I just know we’d have a blast shopping together in person.

What’s your favorite beverages?
Coffee! Margaritas. COFFEE! Tea.

Tell me something I might be surprised to know about you.
I’m not really sure what would be surprising to you. I do have quite the potty mouth. I suppose that might be surprising to people who don’t know me personally. I try to keep things clean around here.

You have 2 chins!
Not really a question, but ok. Yes I do. I believe I mentioned that a few posts back.

I’m actually surprised that there was only one negative comment/remark. I was warned not to do this because it would attract the trolls, but I thought it would be a fun way for you to get to know me a little better. Well, I hope you learned something new!
