Swatches

Here is my August Birchbox! Just like last month’s box, it’s not really exciting. But there are a few items I’ll definitely get use from.

Last year I won a giveaway on Monica’s blog. It’s a cute little Oribe hair care set that I’ve yet to use. I still have so many open bottles of shampoo and conditioner, but I’m almost done with a few. So hopefully I’ll get to use it soon. I’m not so sure I’ll have much use for the Oribe Après Beach Wave and Shine Spray though, but the brand does appeal to me.

The Hey Honey Trick and Treat Cream Concealer treats and conceals the undereye area. The lightly pigmented formula conceals dark circles while keeping the area smooth and hydrated thanks to a blend of amino acid-rich proline and palm oil. It sounds like a great product and I’ll definitely give it a try, but it’s not really something I need at the moment.

I received the shade Fantasy from the Manna Kadar Cosmetics Day-Dream Palette. It’s a really pretty eyeshadow and the description claims it can easily be used as a highlighter and blush as well. I definitely wouldn’t use this as a blush, but I can totally see it working beautifully as a highlighter. In the swatches above you can see it swatched both dry and wet. This is probably my favorite item in the box.

I think Benefit wins the award for world’s tiniest sample. I had to include a close-up so that you can see just how tiny it is. I’m sure that once I use up this sample filling in just ONE brow I’ll be able to determine whether or not the Benefit goof proof brow pencil is for me. All jokes aside, this brow product worked much better than the last Benefit brow product I received. I received the shade #2 which is WAY too light for me. In the swatches above I had to swipe many times just to get that shade to show up. However, it was fairly easy to work with. The tip isn’t as fine as I’d like it to be, but I was still able to shape and fill in my brows easily. I’m sure if the shade were darker it would have made for a nice natural looking brow too. Even with my sparse brows.

The Bumble and bumble. Hairdresser’s Invisible Oil Primer is the only other product I’ll get use out of. It’s a protective primer infused with 6 lightweight oils to de-tangle, de-frizz, and defend against heat damage. It makes coarse hair easy to style and even tames flyaways. I’ll definitely get some use out of this.

I’ve been gathering up the samples I won’t use and plan to include them in a giveaway I’m planning soon. That way someone can get some use of some of these items. I hope you all had a great weekend! I spent my weekend with my guys. We did some shopping and ate some tacos. I really need more weekends like that in my life.

July 2016 Birchbox

July 2016 Birchbox

So this month’s Birchbox is a bit of a dud. I tried to keep an open mind when I did my little sneak peek, but even in person this box is just… a dud!

The Catherine Malandrino Style de Paris smells pretty nice. I’m really digging the nice citrus notes. It’s a little on the strong side, but I’m digging it.

The Balance Me Radiance Face Mask is a lightweight mask that claims to boost the luminosity of lackluster skin in just five minutes. It’s a clay-based formula that cleanses, exfoliates, and brightens skin. I’ll give it a go.

I don’t think I’ve tried much from Smashbox. So I was a little excited to try the Smashbox Cosmetics X-Rated Mascara. And you know what? I actually liked it! The brush easily separated my lashes. It gave me a decent amount of volume and really lengthened my lashes.

I’m curious about the Marcelle BB Cream Golden Glow, but when I went to test it on the back of my hand the first thing I noticed was the scent. It’s perfume free so the scent isn’t perfumey or anything overpowering. It just smells a little funky. It has some really great reviews so I’m not sure if I just have an overly sensitive nose or maybe I got a bad tube? Scent issue aside, I did notice how dewy and glowy the back of my hand looked. So I will give it a go. I just hope the scent doesn’t linger.

If there’s anything in this box that I’m truly excited to try it’s the Dr. Jart+ Water Drop Hydrating Moisturizer. I recently found out that the reason I’ve been breaking out on days that I wear makeup is my moisturizer. Usually before bed I apply my Chuda Healing Hydrating Cream. But since my husband started dipping into it I’ve run dangerously low. So one night I used my morning moisturizer instead of the Chuda Cream. When I woke up my face was covered in tiny white bumps and my skin was red and itchy. The following night I applied my Chuda Cream and by mid-day my skin was looking normal again. Now not only do I need more Chuda Cream, but I also need a new morning moisturizer since my other one betrayed me. So I’m excited to see how this one works out for me.

Swatches: Illuminator, Eyeliner, Brow gel

Here is my June 2016 Birchbox! And boy is it an exciting one! Let’s dig in!

Birchbox says that the Supergoop!® Defense Refresh Setting Mist SPF 50 is a 3-in-one mist. Part makeup setter, oil controller and UV protector. It sounds impressive. I’m not so sure how I feel about the rosemary and mint scent, but I’ll definitely give this a try.

I was so excited to see what the Benefit gimme brow volumizing fiber gel could do for my poor brows. I immediately ripped this baby open and gave it a try. First, the shade is off. I received the lightest shade which is way too light for my super dark brows. So it’s a little difficult for me to say if it actually works. I decided to apply it anyway to get a feel for it and see if it might be something I’d like. I don’t. The brush is small enough to get in there and fill in where needed. But I felt that it looked cakey. It did make my brows look a little fuller and I’m sure if I had the right shade it would have looked much fuller. But I still don’t like the end result. I feel like this might work better for those who have a nice brow shape and no bald spots or patches. I have a few spots where the hair doesn’t grow back anymore which is probably why it looks so bad. Just figured I’d mention that.

When I saw the word peel I thought I had another product I couldn’t use on my sensitive skin. But the Real Chemistry Luminous 3-Minute Peel – Body isn’t just for your face! According to Birchbox this acid-free formula is developed for the full body! I can’t wait to see how this works!

My highlighter stash is quickly growing. The Laura Geller New York Baked Gelato Swirl Illuminator will make a wonderful addition. I received the shade Gilded Honey. Look how beautiful it is! I’m totally going to work this into a look this week!

Last up is the ARDENCY INN MODSTER Smooth Ride Supercharged Eyeliner in black. I’m a little bummed to be getting yet another eyeliner. And a black one at that. I know I said you can never have enough, but come on, man! I would have been excited if I had received that gorgeous turquoise instead!

Despite the one item I can’t use I still find this month’s box to be exciting. And the box itself is super pretty!
