October 2015 Birchbox

Here is my October 2015 Birchbox! It’s not really exciting, but I wouldn’t call it a dud either. Let’s break it down…

The BioRepublic Skincare Aloe Rescue Revitalizing Fiber Mask Set sounds nice, but after my last experience with a sheet mask I’m going to have to pass. Sorry!

I’ll definitely give the Klorane Gentle Dry Shampoo with Oat Milk a try. I actually haven’t tried a dry shampoo yet. Even though I do have a few samples in my tool box. I’ll get around to sampling them one day.

I’m actually pretty excited to try the Jouer Matte Moisture Tint. I don’t wear tinted moisturizer often, but it’s nice on those days I want to keep it light.

The Number 4™ Lumiere dhiver Fluoro5 Elixer Restore & Repair Oil kind of confused me. At first I thought it was a hair oil, but after reading the description on Birchbox I found out that it’s actually a shampoo that doubles as a body wash. I don’t plan to use it as a body wash, but I’m curious to see how it’ll hold up with my color treated hair. The reviews seem promising.

I’ve never tried a stila mascara so I’m pretty excited about the stila huge™ extreme lash mascara. I’ll definitely work this into a look later on this week and report back.

A little side note: So all that talk about planning ahead and having TONS of posts lined up and somehow things are sluggish around here. I actually do have several posts lined up, but they need swatches. My skin is doing much better now so I’ll have to get to those swatches ASAP. I also fell behind on some of your blogs because I’ve been busy around the house. I don’t know what came over me. One day I woke up and started deep cleaning the place and somehow it turned into a massive Fall cleaning. I got rid of quite a bit of makeup, clothes, unused appliances (the ice cream maker seemed like a good idea at the time…), etc. Also, now that the holidays are upon us I’ve been getting in some bakery orders and that pushed me to finally get my Etsy store up and running. Well, it pushed me to TRY to get it up and running. I’m still working on it. I’ve definitely got a lot on my plate right now. But I’m done with the Fall cleaning so that frees up some time. I have lots in store for this place. And I will catch up on ALL of your blogs! I promise!

Swatches

Another month, another Birchbox! Here is my September 2015 Birchbox!

First up is the PARLOR by Jeff Chastain Smoothing Blowout Spray. I don’t really blow dry my hair, but maybe one day I’ll stop being lazy and do something to my hair. Aside from straightening it that is. It sounds like an interesting product and it has lots of pretty great reviews. The people seem to like it.

I’m not really into concealer crayons or sticks, but I’ll definitely give the trèStiQue Correct & Cover Concealer Crayon a try. Maybe it’ll come in handy while traveling? The packaging is kinda cool. At first I thought ‘Oh no Birchbox didn’t just toss in this crayon without a cap!’ They didn’t.

I’m actually pretty excited about the 100% Pure Organic Coffee Bean Caffeine Eye Cream. I won’t pretend that I can’t benefit from the claims of reducing fine lines, dark circles and puffiness. Because these days I really can. And it’s a nice sized sample too!

I’m one of those people who used to hate getting perfume samples. But that’s changed over the years. I have a small vase full of perfume samples and have found so many new favorites. Juliette Has a Gun Not a Perfume will be joining my vase full of samples. I’ll share the Birchbox breakdown because it’s pretty interesting. ‘Romano Ricci, the self-described offbeat dandy of the perfume world, only used one element—Cetalox—to create this minimalist perfume. Even if you’ve never heard of it, you’ve undoubtedly picked up its scent. Used as a back note in thousands of fragrances, Cetalox (a synthetic substitute for grey amber) takes center stage in Not a Perfume. The result is elegant, pure, spicy, and completely allergen-free.’ It smells really nice. It’s a very light and pleasant fragrance.

When I did my usual sneak peek I was a little disappointed that I got the POP Beauty POP Portfolio Eyeshadow Palette instead of the Japonesque Eyeshadow Duo. I was so disappointed in fact that I used my saved up points to purchase one of the Japonesque Eyeshadow Duos. While I don’t regret using my points for a nice looking new to me product, I probably should have chilled out a bit. Because the POP Beauty POP Portfolio Eyeshadow Palette is GORGEOUS! I’ve definitely heard of POP Beauty, but truthfully nothing really grabbed my attention. Well, they have my attention now. Do you see those swatches? So. Pretty. The shadows were soft and nicely pigmented. I’m planning on giving this beauty a proper review later on. And the sample size for this trio is really generous as well. I’m impressed.

I’m really digging this month’s Birchbox.

Swatch
1. IPKN Pore Apple Sun Cream
2. Crabtree & Evelyn Gardeners Ultra-Moisturizing Hand Therapy
3. Dr. Jart+ Dermask Vital Hydra Solution™ Deep Hydration Sheet Mask
4. RUSK® Volumizing Mousse
5. LAQA & Co. Charm School Kit

Here is my August 2015 Birchbox! When I did my little sneak peek I admit I wasn’t exactly excited about it. But when I finally received it I have to say that it all looks much better in person. And the samples are all very generous in size.

I’ll start off with the IPKN Pore Apple Sun Cream. You can never have enough sunscreen! And this one is infused with apple water extract which sounds really nice. I can always get some use out of sunscreen especially one that claims to be a multitasker (smoothing, color correcting, and protecting skin all day long).

The Crabtree & Evelyn Gardeners Ultra-Moisturizing Hand Therapy is nice. It’s always good to have some hand cream laying around and the packaging is super cute! It smells nice and the sample size is rather large. The tube I got in my box contains 0.9 oz. which is enough for quite a few uses.

If I didn’t just have the world’s worst experience with a sheet mask a few days ago I might have been really excited about the Dr. Jart+ Dermask Vital Hydra Solution™ Deep Hydration Sheet Mask. My skin had a bad reaction to another brand and my face is red, itchy, and broken out pretty badly. This is why I stay away from these things. My skin is just too sensitive. I’ll be passing this on to someone who can get some use from it.

I don’t know why Birchbox insists on sending me MORE volumizing products. My profile is set accordingly yet I continue to receive volumizing products. Please stop? Anyway, I’m sure the RUSK® Volumizing Mousse is a great product, but it’s definitely not for me. I don’t need volume and I haven’t needed mousse since the 90’s. I’ll be giving this away to a good home.

The LAQA & Co. Charm School Kit is pretty cool. You can never have enough lip products! This is a multitasking crayon that can also be used on your cheeks! I got the shade Cray-Cray which is a coral peach. I’m pretty sure I received a similar item in a previous Birchbox or Ipsy Bag, but I gave it away. I’ll probably hold onto this one for a while to see if I like it or not.
