Purchased By Me
When I first saw swatches of the Black Moon Cosmetics Liquid to Matte Lipsticks I was so excited! I know the very last thing I need is even more liquid lipsticks, but I was sure I needed these. I actually wanted to get both Libra and Purgatory, but Libra was sold out. I had planned on getting it once it came back in stock, but I think I’m going to pass now. I’ll explain.
Purgatory is described as a dark elegant purple. I was seriously expecting it to look just like the swatches I’ve seen floating around Instagram, but that didn’t happen. In some lighting Purgatory looks black with hints of purple. In natural light and flash it actually looks purple, but not quite the shade I was expecting. Don’t get me wrong, it’s pretty. But it’s just not what I was expecting. Unfortunately the negatives don’t stop here.
Application was a bit of a hassle. In the description it says no lip liner needed, but I had to use a lip brush to apply it because of the texture. It wasn’t creamy at all. It was very thick and sort of pasty. Even using the lip brush I found that it applied unevenly leaving me with a very patchy look. Once applied it felt ok. Tacky, but ok.
I don’t like posting bad reviews. If you look back on my posts I might have a meh attitude toward a few things, but I generally don’t waste my time photographing and writing about something that just didn’t work for me. My blog has never been about reviews. I’m not trying to get people to buy things. I like posting about the things I like. The things I find pretty. The things that work for ME. If it helps someone in the process that’s cool. It’s just a hobby for me. Nothing more. That’s why you’ll only hear about me gushing over the pretty stuff n thangs. If something doesn’t work for me I either send it back or give it away. This is definitely something I’d send back if I could. I could probably get over the shade issue because it’s still a very pretty shade. But the formula is horrible in my opinion. I’d seriously like to know how some of those Instagramers ended up with such a polished look. I don’t mind working with a product. But it took me several minutes just to get it looking decent and it never fully evened out. I don’t know. Maybe I got a bad batch? I think if it had a creamier texture and applied evenly it would be damn near perfect. But instead I’m left with something I can’t even use or send back. And that makes me sad. You can see Purgatory in action below.
See what I mean about the patchiness? For the life of me I couldn’t even it out! It was very frustrating. Look at the swatches on their website! What I got was NOTHING close to that. If you can recommend a similar shade please do. I really do need it in my life. I’m going to go sulk now.
Oh! Remember my BH Cosmetics Missy Lynn Palette post? You can finally see that beauty in action (points up). I love it! I initially thought the purple shade wasn’t what I was expecting, but once applied on the lids over primer and a nice white base it’s perfection! I’m so glad I picked it up! I can’t say enough good things about it.
