Swatches: Amor Prohibido, Dreaming of You, Selena

It’s been a while since I posted anything from MAC. But when I first heard about this collection last year I just knew I was going to need a few items. That almost didn’t happen though. When I first saw swatches I wasn’t exactly sold. The packaging is gorgeous! The purple really stands out in my collection! But the products didn’t really scream new and exciting. I just feel like I’ve seen these shades over and over and over again. And if I’m being honest I know I’ve got dupes in my collection somewhere. I really didn’t need any of it. Except that I did.

In the end I decided that I didn’t have an eyeshadow similar to Selena in my collection. And I don’t! Then I convinced myself that I couldn’t just get the eyeshadow. I needed at least ONE lipstick! Since everything sold out online in record time I had to go to the ONLY MAC counter in my area. And stalk. My husband and I were the second in line. But we were the first at the door we were standing at and that just so happened to be the door that was opened first. There was a long line in back of us. Most of us got what we wanted, but they sold out just after that line of 35+ people. I’m just glad that the only counter in the area actually had enough stock this time. Because that wasn’t at all the case with past launches.

Now onto the products! Selena is described as an intense pearly violet and is a veluxe pearl. It’s very soft and almost creamy. I swatched it wet to show how intense it can be. It’s a gorgeous shade! It lasted all day on me without creasing. Amor Prohibido is described as a pinky midtone brown and is a glaze. It was a pretty comfortable wear and lasted a few hours before I had to reapply. Dreaming of You is described as a deep wine and is a matte. It lasted a good 5 hours on me before wearing off. It probably would have lasted longer if I didn’t eat or drink. It left behind a slight stain. For a matte it was a really comfortable wear. Surprisingly it didn’t feel drying at all!

Overall I’m very happy with the products I purchased. I definitely have similar lipsticks in my collection, but I mostly purchased these items as a fan and a collector. Otherwise I would have skipped for sure. While I love that they created a Selena collection I feel that it could have been… better… more? I honestly envisioned something similar to the upcoming Mariah Carey collection. I think I just wanted to see something new and exciting. Especially since it was in the works for so long. Or so it seemed. Don’t get me wrong, it’s a beautiful collection! I just feel like a little more thought could have gone into it. But that’s just my opinion. Anyway, you can see these items in action below!

If you weren’t able to get your hands on the collection, don’t worry! Last I heard it should be restocked sometime in January. Which isn’t too far off. Where has this year gone?

MAC Viva Glam Miley Cyrus Lipstick

I finally broke in my MAC Viva Glam Miley Cyrus Lipstick! I’ve been waiting for the perfect moment and with Spring finally here something as bright and cheery as this beauty just seemed fitting. The MAC Viva Glam Miley Cyrus Lipstick is an amplified and described as a hot pink. They sure got the hot part right! This is a definite must have (for me anyway). It lasted well over 5 hours and felt super comfortable. I’m just going to go ahead and say that this is my favorite of all the Viva Glam lipsticks.

I’m not exactly a fan of Miley, but I gotta tell you, I wouldn’t mind seeing a Miley collection. I can see it being super trendy and BOLD! HINT, HINT, MAC.

Alpha Girl Beauty Powder

Swatches (Left to Right): Alpha Girl, Make Me Gorgeous, Real Doll, Reel Sexy

This post took a little longer to put together than I wanted. If you follow me on Instagram you know that my first Alpha Girl Beauty Powder arrived damaged. MAC shipped a replacement out rather quickly, but then I got caught up with other goodies and this post just got pushed back. Better late than never, eh?

I really wanted the lipsticks more than anything. And I think I picked some good ones! I was originally just going to get Reel Sexy, but decided to pick up Make Me Gorgeous and Real Doll as well. After seeing swatches I convinced myself that I needed them in my life.

Let’s start with the Alpha Girl Beauty Powder. It’s described as a soft peachy pink with gold nuance. I applied it to my cheeks as a blush because I thought it would add a nice little glow. I really like it paired with the Reel Sexy Lipstick.

As for the lipsticks, Make Me Gorgeous is an amplified and described as an intense coral pink, Real Doll is a lustre and described as a light pinky lilac, and Reel Sexy is an amplified and described as a bright coral. At this point I don’t think I can pick a favorite. I love them all! And for a lustre I’m really surprised at how Real Doll applied. It really does look like the perfect lilac! You can see them in action below.

I think my camera captured Reel Sexy at its best. But I assure you Make Me Gorgeous and Real Doll look SO much better in person!

Dragon Noodles - This recipe is a staple in my household. It's so easy to whip up and it's delicious! I only make a few changes. I use egg noodles in place of lo mein noodles and I use coconut aminos in place of soy sauce. I also tend to get carried away with the scallion.
