Swatches: Hijinx, Vertigo

With Valentine’s Day just a few days away I’ve been busy getting orders out. I’ve also been experimenting quite a bit so that’s been taking up a lot of my time. I forgot just how much work it can be. But it’s a lot of fun and I really have missed it. I’ve been thinking of sharing some photos of some of my treats here on Midwest Glam. Would anyone be interested in seeing some cute desserts?

A few weeks ago I talked about how much I loved the Sugarpill Liquid Lip Color in Vertigo. Today I will be talking about Hijinx. Hijinx is described as a deep berry infused with multidimensional teal sparkles. It swatched and applied nicely. Once it dried down I rubbed my lips together to bring out those sparkles and boy did it pop! I thought Vertigo was really pretty with the teal sparkles, but Hijinx really steals the show. I wore it with a few different looks, but my favorite so far is paring it with the Natasha Denona Mini Lila Eyeshadow Palette. That’s a look I’ll have to recreate again for sure! You can see them both in action below.

Overall, Hijinx was everything I expected and more! It’s a gorgeous shade that’s bold yet still very wearable. It did last quite a while, but you may need to touch up after eating and drinking. I’ll be reaching for Hijinx often. And speaking of Valentine’s Day, wouldn’t Hijinx make for the most perfect Valentine lip?

What do you think of Vertigo and Hijinx? Which one is your favorite?

Is it just me or was January the month from hell? I’m trying to remain positive, but I’m pretty bummed that this year is off to such a rocky start. Either way I’m pushing through it. I’ve revived an older project of mine so right now my time is divided between my blog and my business. I’m also trying to find out how to work in a doable exercise routine without killing myself. Managing my time has never been one of my strong suits.

I know I mentioned trying to use what I have instead of splurging on things so easily. But after the month I had I figured I deserved a little treat. So while walking around Sephora I spotted some of the Natasha Denona Mini Eyeshadow Palettes and scooped one up. The Mini Lila Eyeshadow Palette was just too pretty to pass up.

The Natasha Denona Mini Lila Eyeshadow Palette is said to be an extension of the existing Lila Palette featuring 5 brand new shades. The plum shade is what stood out to me the most. However, the blue also caught my eye. I don’t have a lot of blue in my collection. I really do favor the reds, pinks, and purples. I thought it would be a fun way to try something a little out of my comfort zone.

The shadows all swatched and blended beautifully. Even the darker shades which usually give me a bit of trouble. The shades all complimented each other beautifully and I was able to create a full look using this palette. Even though there are only 5 shadows you can easily create a few looks with this palette. You can see a look I created with the Natasha Denona Min Lila Eyeshadow Palette below.

Overall, I’d have to say that I absolutely love this palette! I do still find the full size palettes to be rather pricey, but I totally get why. The quality is really there. But for now these mini palettes are a really great way to experiment with the brand and see what they’re all about.

Have you tried any of the Natasha Denona Mini Eyeshadow Palettes? What do you think of them?

Swatch

I actually received the OFRA Cosmetics Highlighter in Rodeo Drive last year. It was right around Valentine’s Day which is why you see my heart props in the background. With Valentine’s Day quickly approaching I figured this was the perfect time to finally share my thoughts with you all.

I believe this is my first time experimenting with OFRA Cosmetics. I did receive one of their blushes in an older Ipsy bag, but haven’t gotten around to reviewing it. I probably should have tested the two together, but I really didn’t think of that until now. Keep an eye out for that review next year. Hah!

OFRA Cosmetics Highlighter in Rodeo Drive

The OFRA Cosmetics Highlighter in Rodeo Drive is described as a universally flattering sun-kissed shade. It’s incredibly pigmented and really doesn’t need to be built up unless you’d like to be seen from space. You know how lots of people say a highlighter is blinding, but really it’s just a little extra glowy? Well, Rodeo Drive really is blinding! I really have to remember to use a light hand when reaching for this one. I don’t mind it so much in photos, but in person you can see me coming from miles away. It’s really beautiful though. You can see Rodeo Drive in action below.

OFRA Cosmetics Highlighter in Rodeo Drive

This is probably one of the easiest highlighters I’ve ever had to photograph. Usually I have to tilt my head just right so that the light hits my highlight allowing it to show in a photo. I didn’t have to try so hard with Rodeo Drive.

Overall, I was impressed with how pigmented it was. It’s a serious highlighter. If you want a highlighter that means business I think you’d really love it. But if you’re looking for something more natural, you might find it to be too much. I personally love it. However, it is very pricey. That would be my only con.

Have you tried anything from OFRA Cosmetics? What highlighters are you loving right now?

*I received these products complimentary. I was not paid or compensated in any way to write this review. All opinions are completely my own.
