Love/Hate Tag

I don’t get the opportunity to participate in tags much, but I do love reading the answers and sharing some of my own. So thank you for tagging me, Lulle! Most of you here probably already know her, but if you don’t you should totally check out her amazing blog at

10 Things I Love

1) My family – I know this might sound like a given, but it’s much more than that. My family is my why.

2) Exercise – Ok so you’re probably thinking ‘You sure don’t look it.’ Well, I’m confident that one day my love for being active will show lol.

3) Coffee – Lots of people love coffee. But how many of them do what I call the Coffee Dance? I will seriously start dancing the moment my daily coffee hits my hands. And if I’m being completely honest, most times it’s what gets me out of bed so early in the morning.

4) Baking – I’ve loved to bake ever since I was a kid pushing out baked goods from my Easy Bake Oven. Today I bake anything and everything. My son is always giving me great ideas for new things to whip up. I hope to one day open my own little bake shop. But right now I’ll settle for at least getting my Etsy shop up and running.

5) Laughing – They say laughter is the best medicine.

6) Traveling – I love visiting new places, seeing new things, trying new foods, etc. This world is a big place and I want to see as much of it as I can.

7) Rocky Movies – These movies are easily the most quoted around my home. And for good reason. They’re inspirational!

8) Music – Whether I’m at home, in the car, in the bath tub, or whatever, music will always set the mood for me. I prefer metal and rock, but I’ll also rock the oldies and even some hip hop from time to time. I’m all set with country though.

9) Spreading happiness – Nothing makes me happier than seeing others happy. I often go out of my way for the people in my life just to see them smile. It’s a great feeling.

10) Life – In my 34 years I’ve been through a lot. I’ve had a lot happen to me and I’ve been knocked down more times than I care to count. It was never a matter of IF I wanted to get back up because no matter what I always do. I may have lost a lot, but I’ve gained so much more. I may have fallen behind, but I always catch up. Life is beautiful that way.

10 Things I Hate

1) Injustice – I’m going to have to steal one of Lulle’s answers. But this is definitely a big hate for me. So much so that my husband utters the words ‘Calm down, Batman!’ several times a week. True story.

2) Bugs – Keep them the hell away from me. Or you’ll hear me screaming from miles away.

3) My brother-in-law – Because he’s a big fat piece of donkey chet.

4) Loud chewing – It’s like nails on a chalk board for me. See also: brother-in-law.

5) Liars – I don’t like being lied to. But who does?

I’m sorry that I can’t think of 10 things. There’s not much that I hate I guess. I’d rather try and focus on the good anyway. :)

Now I have to tag a few people. Of course you don’t have to participate if you don’t want to. I’m sure y’all know the drill! I tag Anne from, Julie from, and Zovesta from

My first aroma diffuser

Posted in Lifestyle on August 13, 2015 | 12 Comments »

Late last year I was introduced to the awesomeness that is the aroma diffuser. While strolling through the mall I wandered into Earthbound. When I first walked in I noticed how wonderful the store smelled. It always smells nice, but that day it smelled especially nice! I asked the sales associate where the smell was coming from and she brought me to their shelf full of aroma diffusers. My mother-in-law had given me money as a Christmas present so I grabbed one of their aroma diffusers and a bunch of their fragrance oils. Talk about the perfect Christmas gift!

The aroma diffuser pictured here is one of their cone shaped diffusers. It wasn’t my first choice, but they were sold out of their disc shaped diffusers and I really wanted one so I settled on the cone shaped diffuser. It comes in white and black. I got the white because it changes colors and I thought that was pretty cool. To get this thing going you remove the top, fill water up to the fill line, add a few drops of your favorite fragrance oil, put the top back on, and turn it on. It automatically shuts off once the water and oil have evaporated (about 6 hours). I rinse the top with warm water and wipe the inside with a damp rag in between uses to prevent build up and to keep things clean. After all, you are breathing this stuff in! You’re going to want to keep it clean.

Before purchasing my first aroma diffuser I used to buy tons of candles and wax melts. The problem with candles is they can be pricey and I’m lucky if one candle will last me a whole week. And the wax melts smell wonderful for about a day. Then I get to scrape out the unscented wax and replace it only to repeat this task the very next day. I still love my oil burners from Yankee Candle. At 4 for $20.00 that’s a bit of a deal. One refill will easily last me a month. They’re perfect for the kitchen and bathroom. I also keep one in my son’s bedroom.

My aroma diffuser is perfect for my bedroom. I only have to refill it twice throughout the day. I add about 2-3 drops of a fragrance oil each time. So a single bottle lasts me months! Well, I do switch up the fragrance so I guess you have to take that into account. But a single bottle does go a long way! I’ve only ever had to replace one bottle (Butt Naked) and that’s only because I use it so often. And like I said, I purchased this around Christmas time and that was months ago!

Here are some of my favorite fragrance oils. Butt Naked smells fresh and clean. It’s light and fruity. It’s so relaxing! I like using this at night just before bed. Red Rose might sound like a garden fest that will leave your nose feeling all ticklish, but that’s so not the case. It does smell like a rose, but it’s a nice light rose scent. Pussy is another light scent. It smells a little sweet and a little musky. Oceanic is a heavier scent. This one smells like straight up cologne which can be off-putting at times. But I really liked it in a larger wide-open space like the living room. The other scents don’t really travel into other rooms, but this one does.

There are so many different kinds of fragrance oils out there. You can use whatever you want really. I might have to test out some of the Yankee Candle fragrance oils next time I’m at the mall. I’m thinking some nice Autumn themed scents. I really need to change it up because I’ve been hoarding bottles of Butt Naked like you wouldn’t believe. It’s funny because whenever my husband and I walk into Earthbound and we’re asked by the friendly sales associates what we’re there for my husband replies with ‘I’m here to get Butt Naked!’ Come on. They asked!

Making life easier with meal prep

Posted in Food, Lifestyle on April 25, 2015 | 8 Comments »

Taken with my iPhone

Anyone else have a problem with eating healthy when it comes to lunch, or is it just me? I eat a fairly healthy breakfast and dinner, but come lunch time I fall apart and just sort of forget how to eat like an adult. I’ve been known to eat cupcakes, candy, fast food, and sometimes just skip it all together and walk around hangry. I’ve made a bunch of excuses for my actions. I get busy with work, household stuff, taking care of my guys and my Klaus, exercise, blog work, etc. I’m not kidding. I will literally walk 5+ miles then convince myself I just don’t have the time to eat healthy and then go grab some fast food. Because that makes total sense! But for me time really is an issue. No matter how early I wake up there never seems to be enough time in the day. Even now that I work from home I feel like I have even LESS time to get everything done. Go figure!

So I had to find a way to keep myself on track. I tried doing the mason jar salad thing. No matter how many jars I filled up I still had waste. No one else here eats salad so whatever didn’t fit in the jars just went to waste. Also, I don’t care for salad! There! I said it! Once in a while I will make a salad so good that I ask myself why I don’t eat salad more often. Then the next day rolls around and I tell myself it’s salad time and then I realize I just don’t want it! The very thought of it makes me sad. I don’t know what it is. It’s not that I’m bored of it. I eat the same breakfast almost every single morning and never grow tired of it. I guess I’m just not a salad person?

…it was a damn good salad though!

Then I stumbled upon some pretty impressive meal prep photos on Instagram. That seemed like something I could do! And you know what? It really does help me to stay on track! It’s probably the easiest thing ever! Come Monday I spend a part of my morning cooking and prepping lunch for the week. Then I use an ice cream scoop to evenly distribute the food throughout my containers. I set one container aside for that day, I place another container in the fridge for the following day, and the rest in the freezer. At night I take my lunch out of the freezer and let it thaw out in the fridge overnight and then heat it up the following day. My lunch is ready in a few minutes! It seriously does not get easier than that! This method is especially going to come in handy during the summer when my son is home from school. Because do you know what’s worse than trying to prepare a healthy lunch every day? Trying to prepare TWO healthy lunches every day! This way we will have more time to go hiking and exploring.

One of my favorite combos is pictured above. Ground chicken sausage, mashed purple sweet potatoes, and sautéed kale with shallots. Another quick and easy lunch is chicken or turkey meatloaf, broccoli mash, and carrots. I also saw these super cute noodle cups that I want to try out. I’m betting my son will appreciate that more than anything!

Like I mentioned before, my breakfast is the same every day. Non-fat yogurt with granola and fresh fruit. Sometimes I switch it up and will do overnight oats with fresh fruit. Sunday brunch I get a little fancy and do shredded sweet potatoes with egg or avocado with egg.

As for the snack or backup meal, smoothie packs are a lifesaver! I chop up a bunch of fruit and vegetables and place them in freezer bags. When I’m ready for a smoothie I empty the smoothie pack into my Vitamix along with some non-dairy milk (lite soy, oat, rice) and non-fat yogurt. Easy, right? Not only is it easy, but it also cuts back on waste because everything fits in the freezer bags.

I don’t really meal prep for dinner, but I might give that a go. Because it really is a time saver and it totally helps keep me on track. I only wish I had done this sooner! Also, I might need a bigger freezer!

Mmm lunch!
