Swatches: Make Up For Ever Ultra HD Invisible Cover Foundation in 115 – R230

I was so excited when I found out that I would be getting this VoxBox. I don’t have a lot of Make Up For Ever in my collection, but I love the few items I do have. It’s nice to have the chance to test out some of their foundations. I’ve been meaning to try some out for a while now.

First up is the Make Up For Ever Ultra HD Invisible Cover Foundation. I received the shade 115 – R230. It’s actually a really nice match. I didn’t notice a scent. It’s a little watery, but not runny. I applied it with my BeautyBlender over my moisturizer and primer. It applied and blended beautifully! I really like the coverage. I got a really nice medium coverage. It builds up nicely, but I didn’t get too carried away. I prefer a more natural looking coverage. I don’t mind if a few imperfections are peeking through. But this foundation actually covered most of it. Not that I have too much to cover at the moment. But it evened everything out perfectly!

It felt lightweight and was a really comfortable wear. I did start to get shiny around 3-4 hours, but it wasn’t so bad. It still looked pretty good around the 9 hour mark just before I washed it off. I really, really, really, loved this foundation. Until I washed it off and saw how red and irritated my face was. My cheeks were slightly swollen. By morning my cheeks were still slightly swollen, rosy, and I felt some bumps. It’s rare that a foundation causes this kind of a reaction. The only other face makeup that caused a similar reaction was Laura Mercier’s Tinted Moisturizer. Another product I loved and had to stop using because of my sensitive skin. I really wish I knew what about this foundation caused such a reaction. The only products that really cause my skin to freak out are serums and sheet masks.

Overall it really is a great foundation and if my skin hadn’t reacted negatively I definitely would have purchased it once I ran out. I didn’t like the shine poking through after just 3-4 hours, but it’s nothing that can’t be fixed. And that was the only con for me. Well, that and my cheeks swelling up. Can’t win ‘em all I guess.

You can see the Make Up For Ever Ultra HD Invisible Cover Foundation in action below. I’d also like to mention how beautifully it photographs. It really is such a beautiful foundation. Now excuse me while I continue to pout.

  1. It’s a real shame about the bad reaction because it looks flawless on you! xx

  2. I dislike the HD foundation, I know everyone rave about it but it just sits on top of my skin. The only way I am able to make it work is to mix it with Water Blend. Shame that it irritates your skin because the finish is beautiful on you.

    • I’ve definitely heard some mixed reviews. Even my best friend didn’t care much for it. But I really did love it and am so bummed it didn’t agree with me.

  3. I have heard so many rave reviews about this foundation! It even looks flawless on you but it’s really sad that it irritated your skin.

  4. I used the liquid version back in the day and I really liked it. Too bad you had such a bad reaction to this foundation though. Any idea what ingredient it’s causing the irritation?

  9. I gotta say, I LOVE the color of your hair. But back to your blog post! I am actually in the market for a new foundation right now.. was using Shea Moisture, but found it to be oily and inconsistent. Tried a couple organic brands off Amazon.com, and they just dont deliver.. one smelled funky and off putting, another was translucent as to be pointless, no matter what shade I tried. So I am finally looking at these tried and true brands, haha.. – http://www.domesticgeekgirl.com

    • Awww thank you, Gingi! My go-to is actually MAC Pro Longwear. There may be others that I like and will use from time to time, but I always come back to MAC. It’s dependable. Have you tried any of their foundations?

  10. Ugh, I’m so sorry you had that reaction! It’s such a shame, because that foundation really does wear beautifully on you.

  11. I really do like this foundation, so sad that it caused a terrible reaction to your skin! My problem is to find my shade. I’ve tried 2 so far and neither was a perfect match. I used one of my samples yesterday and my husband actually told me that I looked “washed out”. He’s not one to ever notice foundation so that’s a bad sign, lol!

    • I know! I really wish I knew what the heck it was! I can imagine how frustrating it must be to find a good match. Especially for a product you like. Have you tried getting matched at Sephora? This one turned out to match me quite nicely, but I mean it’s not like I can even enjoy it. :(

  12. It looks beautiful on you but shame that it impacted your skin. I love MUFE HD foundation and the way my skin looks in photos.
