Influenster SK-II VoxBox

When I received the Influenster SK-II VoxBox I was pretty excited, but only because everyone else was excited and so I figured I must have hit jackpot or something. I’ve never heard of SK-II and aside from the included postcard there was no other info on the brand or the contents of the box for that matter. So I went to the company website to find out just what I was working with.

I received the SK-II Facial Treatment Mask and the Facial Treatment Essence. I started with the Facial Treatment Mask. Here’s a description from the SK-II website: ‘For an instant boost in your skin’s suppleness and translucency. A luxurious facial mask with an indulgent concentration of Pitera in a single application. Your skin is immediately and exceptionally immersed in moisturization, resulting in a visibly radiant and crystal clear complexion.’

When I first saw the sheet mask I sighed. I don’t have a lot of luck with sheet masks. Every single sheet mask I’ve tried has caused me to break out pretty badly. Maybe I’m just not picking the right ones? Anyway, as I started to unfold the mask and make sense of it I was worried that it would be messy, but it wasn’t. I laid it over my face and smoothed it out and let it sit for about 15 minutes. I was surprised that there wasn’t any tingling or burning. After the 15 minutes I removed the sheet mask and wiped away the excess liquid like the application guide suggested. The following morning my skin was looking and feeling pretty great! Not a single blemish! My skin felt incredibly smooth! Both of my cheeks had a tiny patch of dry skin, but I’m sure skipping my moisturizer before bed didn’t help matters. Overall it was a pretty great sheet mask. I finally have a positive experience with a sheet mask! But at $17 per sheet mask I’m not sure it’s something I’ll be splurging on too often. Yikes!

I was pretty excited to try the Facial Treatment Essence. It seemed like a pretty interesting product. Here’s a description from the SK-II website: ‘SK-II’s signature product, the much-loved and most awarded bestseller, Facial Treatment Essence, has over 90% Pitera. Pitera is a clear liquid rich in vitamins, amino acids, minerals and organic acids. It’s the miracle ingredient discovered over 35 years ago that remains essentially unchanged till today.

SK-II Facial Treatment Essence helps to improve the appearance of 5 dimensions of beautiful, crystal clear skin: spots are less visible, appearance of wrinkles is reduced, skin texture is more refined, firmness is improved, and radiance is beautifully elevated. Its irreplaceable formula gently exfoliates the face and helps moderate the skin surface renewal cycle.’

After washing my face I sprinkled like 3 drops into my hand, rubbed them together, and patted the product onto my face and neck. It wasn’t messy and it applied easily and evenly. It absorbed pretty quickly. I did notice a bit of a funky scent, but it goes away once the product is absorbed. I used this product for just 3 days. The 1st day I noticed a few blemishes. The 2nd day it worsened. The 3rd day my cheeks were very red and covered in white bumps. I decided to stop using it. My cheeks finally recovered a few days later, but the spots on my forehead are still red and itchy. Sadly the Facial Treatment Essence just didn’t agree with me so I can’t really share more.

When it comes to skincare I always wonder if I should just stick it out. Some claim things get bad before they start to really work. But when you’re walking around with a red, patchy, itchy, face covered in white bumps that theory can be a little difficult to fully process. You want relief and you want it fast. So I usually stop using what causes me any amount of discomfort.

*I received these products complimentary. I was not paid or compensated in any way to write this review. All opinions are completely my own.

  1. Shame that the essence didn’t work for you because I think it’s one of their best selling product but skincare is tricky. You’re wise to stop using it after 3 days, gawd knows what would happen if you persisted. :-(

    • Yes I’ve heard! I was so surprised especially considering there’s like 6 or so ingredients and the mask contained like half of them.

  2. Great contents. Every mask broke out, that’s sad. I loved the earrings :)

  3. I loved both of the SK-II products I have tried – The Facial Treatment Cleansing Oil and the Stempower cream. I do think they are exorbitantly price though.

  5. There is no point in “sticking things out”. If your skin reacts that badly, it was very wise to stop it. This initial worsening may occur with chemical strength peels and redness, but shouldn’t with other skincare. If I react bad, I stop using the stuff.

  6. It’s a shame the essence didn’t work out for you, but with that reaction, I would stop using it too! The sheet mask sounds great though! xx

  11. Wow I wish I would receive the cool beauty boxes from Influenster! I’ve been wanting to try SK-II for a while!
It’s too bad that the Essence caused you such a bad reaction. And no, I don’t think that you should keep using something that obviously breaks you out so badly. I’ve heard that first users of AHA/BHA can have this kind of reaction at first, but it sounds like it just contains hydrating and nourishing ingredients so I don’t see why it should break you out like that.

    • This was my first beauty related box so it was pretty exciting. Like I mentioned in another comment like half of the ingredients are also in the mask and the mask was fine. :(

  12. sorry to hear the essence didn’t work out. i’m with you–no need to wait it out if it’s obviously bothering you. i liked the mask but didn’t get enough of an effect with the essence. i need to keep trying it

    • Yeah I was just telling the husband that I might need to purchase the mask. I really did enjoy it. I hope the essence works better for you!

  13. Oh no! That’s kind of scary about the Essence – especially as I just purchased some SK-II products to try! Hope all goes well but it does suck when a hyped about product doesn’t end up working for you. It’s so interesting what you said about the Mask having many of the same ingredients. I’m intrigued to compare them now. :-)
