I’m going to try and review items I have received in my subscription boxes from now on. I haven’t quite decided how to go about this. I was toying with the idea of a Sample Sunday category, but the idea of adding a new day is a bit much for me. I could just do Sample Saturday and skip my weekly photo post, but I do like displaying my photos. I guess I’ll figure it out as I go. For now I’ll start here.

I received the IPKN Moist & Firm Beauty Balm in my April 2016 Birchbox. I really didn’t think much of it because I’m not big on BB creams. But I was asked to give a review so here goes.

The IPKN Moist & Firm Beauty Balm is a multi-tasking BB cream that contains SPF 45 and packed with vitamin E and collagen. This is said to result in a more hydrated and brightened complexion. It also has a matte finish. I received the shade Light/Medium which was a fairly decent match. It has a bit of a scent. I found it to smell like sunscreen. It didn’t linger which is good because I don’t care for scented face products usually. The texture was really nice. It wasn’t watery, but it wasn’t thick. It was nice and creamy and applied and blended beautifully. I applied it with my BeautyBlender as I do with all of my face products. I was actually very surprised by the coverage. It doesn’t cover every single imperfection, but it definitely evens things out. I don’t mind a few imperfections showing through because I’m not a perfect being and I do have blemishes here and there. But for the most part this BB cream concealed them and what it didn’t conceal I just went in with some concealer. And I didn’t need much!

I was also surprised how this BB cream felt on my skin. It didn’t feel heavy. In fact it felt like I wasn’t even wearing any face makeup at all! I did start to get a little shiny around 5 or so hours, but in this heat I think anything would leave me looking shiny sooner or later. Aside from the bit of shine poking through it wore well for 10+ hours before I washed it off. I don’t really think it did anything special for my skin as far as the brightening and wrinkle claims go, but I might have to purchase the full size and use it more over time to fully test that out. Overall I’d have to say this is an amazing BB cream and I’ll totally purchase the full size. The coverage is decent, it contains a high SPF, and it feels great on my skin.

The full sized tube (1.3 oz) is $35.00 on Birchbox and appears to only come in 4 shades (Fair, Light, Light/Medium, and Medium).

  1. I love BB creams in general but it’s been a long time since I last purchase one. This sounds really good, Lisa! May I know your skin type? I’m wondering if this would suits my dry skin.

    • I’m oily/combo, but my skin is pretty dry these days due to this extreme heat. I’ve definitely got some visible dry patches here and there and the BB Cream didn’t settle in and accentuate.

  2. I’m so glad this BB worked out for you! I wonder how it would react with my oily skin type, especially in this heat.

    • It does have a matte finish! But I don’t think much will hold up against this heat. I’ve been rocking a bare face for like a week now.

  3. Sounds impressive! I love BB creams <3

  5. It sounds really nice! I love lightweight foundations, and medium coverage is always what gives me the best results. When I go for higher coverage usually it doesn’t look natural enough for my taste.
