July 2016 Birchbox

So this month’s Birchbox is a bit of a dud. I tried to keep an open mind when I did my little sneak peek, but even in person this box is just… a dud!

The Catherine Malandrino Style de Paris smells pretty nice. I’m really digging the nice citrus notes. It’s a little on the strong side, but I’m digging it.

The Balance Me Radiance Face Mask is a lightweight mask that claims to boost the luminosity of lackluster skin in just five minutes. It’s a clay-based formula that cleanses, exfoliates, and brightens skin. I’ll give it a go.

I don’t think I’ve tried much from Smashbox. So I was a little excited to try the Smashbox Cosmetics X-Rated Mascara. And you know what? I actually liked it! The brush easily separated my lashes. It gave me a decent amount of volume and really lengthened my lashes.

I’m curious about the Marcelle BB Cream Golden Glow, but when I went to test it on the back of my hand the first thing I noticed was the scent. It’s perfume free so the scent isn’t perfumey or anything overpowering. It just smells a little funky. It has some really great reviews so I’m not sure if I just have an overly sensitive nose or maybe I got a bad tube? Scent issue aside, I did notice how dewy and glowy the back of my hand looked. So I will give it a go. I just hope the scent doesn’t linger.

If there’s anything in this box that I’m truly excited to try it’s the Dr. Jart+ Water Drop Hydrating Moisturizer. I recently found out that the reason I’ve been breaking out on days that I wear makeup is my moisturizer. Usually before bed I apply my Chuda Healing Hydrating Cream. But since my husband started dipping into it I’ve run dangerously low. So one night I used my morning moisturizer instead of the Chuda Cream. When I woke up my face was covered in tiny white bumps and my skin was red and itchy. The following night I applied my Chuda Cream and by mid-day my skin was looking normal again. Now not only do I need more Chuda Cream, but I also need a new morning moisturizer since my other one betrayed me. So I’m excited to see how this one works out for me.

  1. Hey I actually think this box is not bad! I’d love to try that mascara, and the Dr Jart moisturizer sounds really intriguing. I’ve also heard many good things about Marcelle makeup.

    • I just wasn’t overly excited about anything in here. Well, aside from the Dr. Jart. But the mascara is actually pretty great. I’ve been using it since I got it.

  2. I’ve had that happen to me too .. I was using a jojoba oil on my face at night and I’d wake up to a bunch of little white bumps ~ no bueno !

Looks like a very nice box ! It’s so much fun to play with new products.

    • No bueno is right! My skin was doing so good and whenever I’d do my makeup I’d end up with those tiny white bumps everywhere! Trying to narrow it down was a pain. Especially since I change products up daily! I never would have thought it was my moisturizer!

  3. I know you said it is a bit of a dud, but the lineup does sound pretty decent. And a replacement moisturizer just in time when you need it? Perfect!

    • Glad to know it wasn’t just me. It is rather funky smelling, but I’ll still give it a go. Hopefully it doesn’t linger.

  7. I think considering the products you have received it is a pretty decent box. The smash box mascara is a good one I have used it some time back. The moisturizer, bb cream and the face mask sounds interesting.

    • Looks like I’m the only one who considers it to be a dud haha! The mascara really is a good one! I’ll agree with you there! :)

  8. Sorry to hear that this box was a bit of a dud, but I look forward to hearing your review of that new moisturizer!
