I finally placed my first ever Lime Crime order! I’ve been wanting the Venus Palette ever since I first laid eyes on it. But it was always sold out whenever I went to purchase it and at some point I just stopped trying. Recently I was doing some window-shopping and saw that it was finally in stock so I ordered it. And you just know I had to get one of the Velvetines being the liquid lipstick lover that I am.

It took about a week for my package to arrive. When I first opened it I was a little concerned with the packing. The Venus Palette was tucked inside a very thin bubble wrap envelope and the Velvetines was sitting on top of it. There was no other padding aside from the neatly folded tissue paper. Nothing was damaged, but I was really surprised at the lack of protection.

See what I mean?

The Venus Palette was the first thing I reached for. Right away I noticed what looked like a brush marking. You know how sometimes eyeshadows come nicked? Well, this wasn’t a nick. This was a clear brush marking. Upon closer inspection I noticed that the mirror was smudged as if it had been wiped down. If I had purchased these items at the store I would have returned them both and requested a refund. But I hate the process of returning things purchased online. But the more I thought about it the more it bothered me so I took my issues to their chat.

I was greeted right away. I voiced my concerns and the chat representative apologized and said there was no way that it could have been used as their returns are sent to a different facility. However, she said that she could send me a replacement and within the hour I was emailed a new order confirmation. I was very pleased with how my issue was handled.

A few days later my new Venus Palette arrived. This one was packaged a little better and thankfully there were no brush markings this time. The packaging is beautiful! The palette contains 8 eyeshadows. Venus is described as the color of bruised fruit AKA marsala, Shell is an opalescent shell-pink, Aura is a pearlescent ivory, Creation is a rust brown, Icon is a dark brown, Rebirth is described as the color of an over-ripe nectarine, Divine is a dusty stone, and Muse is a deep burgundy red.

The shadows are gorgeous and nicely pigmented. Most are soft and almost creamy, but a few were on the dry side. You can kind of tell from my swatches. However, I didn’t have any issues when I applied them. They applied and blended beautifully! I didn’t have any issues with creasing either.

This palette is very beautiful! I can definitely see what the hype was all about. The packaging is beautiful. The shadows are even more beautiful. I love it and I’m glad I finally got to add it to my collection. And kudos to Lime Crime for their excellent customer service! I truly am impressed with their chat feature and how quickly my problem was addressed. I don’t really know what to make of the first palette, but Lime Crime did act quickly and made it right in the end.

You can see a look I created with the Venus Palette below.

I used Divine on my lid, Shell in my inner crease, Rebirth and Muse in my outer crease and lower lash line, and Aura as my highlight and on the inner corner of my eye. I’ve seen some pretty amazing things done with this palette. I played it safe by keeping it simple and throwing in a little color for a fun Spring look. In fact I’ve been rocking this look since the palette arrived. I’ll change it up eventually.

  14. Those eyeshadows look beautiful, and I love the look you made with it! You sure can rock red eyeshadows. =D What did you do with the old palette? Send it back, or donated it to a family member? ;P I have to admit, I just love that Velvetine packing!

    • Thank you so much, Zovesta! I asked if I could mail it back, but they told me it was ok. So it’s just sitting in a box in my closet. And the packaging is perfect! Easily one of the prettiest around.
