My go-to work look

Purchased By Me/PR Sample

Since I started work I’ve been doing my makeup on a regular basis. Prior to working I would only do my makeup if I went out or if I was working on a blog post. In between I’d let my skin breathe. My skin doesn’t get much breathing time these days, but on the plus side I’m getting a lot of practice in. I have a few go-to looks. This look is one of them. I like it because it’s super easy to put together and doesn’t take a lot of time. I also think it’s perfect for Summer! One thing I’d like to point out is the winged liner. No, I don’t always sit here for 45-60 minutes trying to complete this look with winged liner that may just ruin my entire look should I sneeze. Or breathe too heavy. If I have the extra time and I’m feeling confident, I’ll go in with my Tattoo Liner. I actually prefer this look with it, but it’s still bright and pretty without. Without winged liner this look takes anywhere from 20-30 minutes to complete. Here is a list of products I used to complete this look.

My Go-To Work Look

For my eye look I used Shell and Aura (LC) on my lid, Starfish (Kylie) and Rebirth (LC) in my crease, Venus (LC) in my outer crease, First Class (Kylie) in my inner corner, Island Girl (Kylie) on my lower lash line, Aloha (Kylie) on my brow bone, and a little Icon (LC) thrown in. I know it might sound weird, but somehow it works. I think The Venus Palette alone would be a bit much for work. The use of the Take Me On Vacation Palette tones it down a lot more. I still say it’s a great every day palette. But I love me some color so I had to reach for the Venus Palette to really liven this look up a bit more. I wouldn’t say it’s a neutral look, but it’s not so bold and in your face either.

These are the products that I’ve been reaching for the most. I switch up my eye look a bit here and there, but for the most part this is my go-to. Sometimes I’ll complete my look with a spritz or two of Mario Badescu Facial Spray With Aloe, Herbs and Rosewater or Fresh Rose Floral Toner.

Scentbird

Finally, just before heading out the door I spray on a little perfume. At the moment I’m loving Derek Lam 10 Crosby Drunk On Youth which was sent to me from the kind people at Scentbird. You can read all about it here.

I was planning to do new looks for the blog and photograph them before work. But I sometimes get a little heavy-handed when I know I have to take photos. I want to make sure that the product shows on camera. I just don’t think it would be appropriate for work. So I’m planning my looks around my days off. Which also happens to be my going out days. This way it’ll take a little stress off of me on days that I do have to work. I hate the added stress of having to plan out a look for the blog, figuring out how to tone it down, photograph it, and then drive to work without being a nervous wreck. If I do this not only will it make my life a whole lot easier, but it’ll give me 2 days to work on looks with 1 day left to give my skin the break it needs.

Who would have thought that in the midst of stressing over how to balance family life, housework, cooking healthy meals, exercise, a new job, overcoming my fear of driving, wondering how to keep Midwest Glam going, that I’d find inspiration to do just that? Keep Midwest Glam going! I’m suddenly full of ideas. Not a whole lot of time to execute them, but I’ll get there!

*I received some of these products complimentary. I was not paid or compensated in any way to write this review. All opinions are completely my own.

  1. I hope you’re settling in well with your new job, Lisa. I know what you mean about continuing the blog though, I have multiple plans before I head to work too but more often than not, they don’t pan out.

    • I’m getting there! Slowly, but surely lol. I’m definitely feeling my age these days hahaha! It’s a lot to juggle, but I wouldn’t have it any other way. I still feel like it’s good for me. I just need to find some balance.

  2. Love the eye look! So glowy and bright.
I noticed that you didn’t list a concealer – are you one of those lucky people who don’t need to use concealer! :P

    • Thank you! Oh no no no! I’m sure I do need concealer lol. I just don’t do a ‘full’ face on days I have to go to work. No contouring either. I try to keep it as simple as I can.

  3. What a pretty everyday look! I think it looks perfect for work, and it’s really your kind of shades. I also intensely dislike driving, especially in traffic, but in Southern California I have no choice if I ever want to get out of the house by myself…

    • I could have sworn I replied to this…

Thank you so much, Lulle! It’s somewhat of a relief to know that I’m not alone. It’s the same deal around these parts though. No buses or anything. If I need to go somewhere I need to drive.

  4. Perfect makeup look for the office/work place – soft & subtle <3 Looking so pretty Lisa :)

  5. Great looks! I haven’t tried any Kylie products. At some point, I would like to try an eyeshadow palette but I tend to just stay away from her stuff.

    • Thank you! And I understand. I tried to as well. But I ended up caving a few times. This time I’m glad I did. This palette has been a staple for me.

  6. This is a gorgeous everyday work look… I loved the touch of peach on eyes as it gave summery vibe to whole look… Beautiful…
