Play! by Sephora: December 2016

I was so excited about this month’s Play! by Sephora box. That is until it arrived and I ripped it open. The bag is cute as heck! The black and rose gold is so pretty! I was way too excited to dig in. Unfortunately, that’s where the excitement came to a screeching halt.

Believe it or not, I’ve never tried the Urban Decay All Nighter Makeup Setting Spray. I keep meaning to pick one up, but never do. I mostly stick to my MAC Fix+ and not much of anything else. Ok nothing else. But I have always wanted to try the Urban Decay Setting Spray so I was very excited to see this included in the box.

I usually don’t mind getting mascara in my boxes, but I feel like that’s all I’ve been getting lately. I haven’t tried the Bobbi Brown Smokey Eye Mascara yet so at least this is another new to me item. But it’s not one I really need at the moment. I’ll still give it a try though.

I think I’d be more excited about the Make Up For Ever Step 1 Skin Equalizer Smoothing Primer if the sample were maybe big enough for at least 2 uses.

I don’t really care much for dry shampoo, but I guess they do come in rather handy when you’re traveling. Which I’m hoping to do a bit of next year. So I guess I’ll tuck the Drybar Detox Dry Shampoo away until then.

Another product I would have been more excited about had the sample been big enough to at least coat both my upper and lower lip is the Sephora Collection Cream Lip Stain. Seriously, what am I going to do with that teeny tiny sample? I probably used half of it in my swatch. I received the shade Always Red which is a matte bold classic red. It is a very pretty red though. Too bad about the tiny size.

The fragrance included in this month’s box is the Elizabeth and James Nirvana Bourbon. It’s a blend of vanilla bourbon and spice wood with a delicate floral note. I actually really like this fragrance. It’s very light and warm. I can see myself purchasing the full size.

So there you have it. I guess it’s not a total dud because I can at least get some use out of all of the items. Even if I’m not that excited about all of them.

  5. So I received it today and we got the exact same box this time but…. mine is missing the MUFE primer. It’s listed on the leaflet but it’s not in the box :/ I called customer service and after waiting 15 minutes I got someone who gave me 50 rewards points to compensate. Woohoo. If that little tube were a reward, it would “cost” at least 100 points. Whatever. I think I’m really over this subscription box.

    • Ugh what a bummer! I think I’m going to give my subscription a few more months. I still like it more than the others I’ve tried in the past.

  6. Such a pretty and perfect little heart on your hand!! My hearts look like poop doodles, lol… I need a steadier hand with makeup! –

    • Hahaha! Sometimes I end up with poop doodles too. My hand isn’t always this steady. If you look back you’ll see some pretty jacked up hearts lol.

  7. Sorry to hear that your box was not quite as exciting as you had hoped! I do hope that setting spray works out for you, tough. It’s also a shame that you didn’t get a more adequate sample of that lip stain, because the color is beautiful.

    • I can’t wait to finally try the setting spray. But so far I’m really enjoying the fragrance. So it’s not a total loss lol.

  8. I actually like the variety that you received, Lisa but the samples are really tiny. I too have never tried MUFE All Nighter Spray, let me know how you like it.

    • Oh wow! I seriously believed I was the only one who hasn’t tried it yet. Believe it or not I’ve actually been enjoying the fragrance more than anything else lol.

  9. Love the lip satin. Looks awesome swatch.

  10. I wanna try that fragrance. That lippie shade is gorgeous but ahh too tiny a size indeed :(
