Swatches: bareMinerals bareSkin® Sheer Sun™ Serum Bronzer, BECCA Backlight Priming Filter

This month’s Play! by Sephora box is called The Minimalists. ‘Effortless Is More – Next-level nudes and no-maintenance naturals: this month, we’re pairing it down for understated style that proves sometimes less really is more. Get a low-key look for Summer with a game-changing hair cream, refreshingly lightweight sunscreen, and more must-haves for creating an easygoing appeal.’ I’m really digging this box and the whole less is more vibe. I think it’s perfect for Summer and this nasty heat wave we’ve been experiencing here. Let’s dig in!

Last year Kimmy from Beauty Isles reviewed the tarte Tarteguard 30 Sunscreen Lotion Broad Spectrum SPF 30. I ended up wishlisting and then purchasing it afterward. I really liked it and recently ran out so I’m glad to have a sample size to hold me over until I can repurchase it. It’s nice and lightweight and is perfect on those days I’m out and about.

I know I’ve tried the Benefit Cosmetics They’re Real! Lengthening & Volumizing Mascara, but I don’t remember if I liked it or not. If I’m not mistaken I think the brush nearly poked out an eye? I don’t remember which ones have hurt me. I guess I’ll find out soon enough.

The Bumble and bumble Don’t Blow It seems interesting. It’s an innovative cream that adds body and enhances fine-medium hair textures for a laid-back, air-dried style. I’ll give it a go!

I’m pretty excited to try the BECCA Backlight Priming Filter. It’s a shimmering makeup primer that acts as a soft-focus filter to blur imperfections and give skin an effortless, luminous look. I tried to pump a pea sized amount for the swatch just like the directions stated, but much more came out. The pump is very touchy!

The bareMinerals bareSkin® Sheer Sun™ Serum Bronzer looks like fun! It’s a blendable, lightweight liquid bronzer that may be worn alone or over foundation to give skin a sheer, natural looking touch of sun. I’ll definitely be working this beauty into a look this week.

Last, but certainly not least is the Tocca Florence fragrance. I don’t usually like floral fragrances. I find most to be overwhelming. But this one is perfect! It’s pretty strong, but I wouldn’t say it’s overwhelming. It’s pleasant and uplifting. It’s a sophisticated blend of bergamot, violet petals, and blonde wood. Definitely not the notes I’m typically drawn to, but somehow I am. It’s definitely going on my wishlist!

I’d have to say that this is another great Play! by Sephora box! All of the items are usable and some are even new to me. I’m really loving this subscription so far! I seriously cannot express that enough.

  1. I’ve tried the Bumble & Bumble Don’t Blow it and it doesn’t work a described, at least for me anyway. You’re suppose to put the product in damp hair and miracle ~ you have amazing hair (not so!). This product does work AMAZING as a blow out styling product, but that’s not the original intention of the product .. lol.

    • I’m testing it out now. We’ll see what happens. But you’re right, the point is to not have to go through all that trouble in the first place. Yikes!

  2. Another great Sephora box, yay! Also, the color of the bottle of Tarteguard 30 Sunscreen Lotion is even fab — I want that shade of nail polish. Lol.

    • I’m actually testing it out right now. Not sure how it’ll work with my thick hair, but I’ll find out soon enough!

  4. I am so jealous that you guys have this amazing service! I can’t believe how good the products are, I so want to try that Primer xx

    • It is a great box, but it’s still not available to everyone here just yet. There are still people waiting. :( The primer does sound pretty great!

  5. I’m really glad you like it, but personally I’m not too happy with this box :( Too many products are repeats of what Sephora gave away with promotional codes or as BI rewards, and nothing is really new. Don’t get me wrong, most of the products seem very good and I’ll try them, but none of them are really exciting to me. I was expecting more new products in a Sephora box – like what we got with the May box.
And I’m pretty sure They’re Real hurt you before. That mascara wand looks like a torture instrument with spikes in all directions in the end! I’ve also had so many samples of it throughout the years…

    • I hear you and that does make sense! The bronzer, primer, and don’t blow it are all new to me items. I guess if I had received them already I’d feel differently. And I knew that mascara had hurt me! There’s another spikey looking one that caused me pain too. I have to remember to write these things down. Hopefully next month will be a more exciting one for you?

  6. Love the look of this box! I have such a love-hate relationship with Bumble & Bumble- loved some of their products and some left my hair looking like I haven’t washed it in a month haha :) I really didn’t like They’re Real mascara, did nothing for my lashes and I kept poking myself in the eye with the brush, so you’re probably right that it was this one that nearly poked your eye out. :)

    • I don’t think I’ve ever tried anything from Bumble & Bumble before. I really hope it wouldn’t leave my hair looking unclean. Yikes lol. And this was the mascara that hurt me! There’s another one out there too with a similar wand that also caused me some pain.

  7. I saw many unhappy with this box with the same reason as Lulle, products that were available with promo codes. I love/hate Benefit They’re Real mascara, the full size that I bought was complete wanker but the deluxe sample that I received later was brilliant. Weird.

    • That is weird! And I guess I’m just a little too easy to please cause I really did enjoy this month’s box. But like I mentioned before I’m used to other boxes where there’s one maybe two usable items. For once it’s just nice to have mostly usable items so it’s not a complete waste.

  8. I think I’m going to pick up the Tarte sunblock. I am moving soon to a cooler climate which ,oddly, means I’ll be outside more.

    • I really like it. It works pretty well under makeup and didn’t aggravate my sensitive skin. And moving sounds like fun!
