Swatches: Kimchi, Latergram

Holy crap, you guys! I finally got off the wait list for Play! by Sephora! I kind of forgot all about it until someone mentioned on Twitter last month that it was open to new subscribers. I was confused for a moment because I remember adding myself to the wait list when it first launched. I just assumed that once my number was up I’d get to finally subscribe. I guess that’s not how this works? Anyway, I went ahead and subscribed and then shared with everyone on all of my social networks so that others could subscribe too. I hope I was able to at least help someone. If not I’ll definitely keep an eye out. I have a few friends who would love so subscribe too.

Anyway, let’s dig in! Here’s what I received in my first box…

I actually received the Briogeo Don’t Despair, Repair!™ Deep Conditioning Mask in my April Birchbox. I haven’t gotten around to using it yet. Now I have two! I felt bad about not passing it on to my MIL since she especially loves hair care products. I’ll definitely include this one in her monthly beauty bag.

I had the KORRES Wild Rose + Vitamin C Advanced Brightening Sleeping Facial on my wishlist for a little while. It’s an overnight facial treatment for uneven skin tone and dark spots that’s said to leave you with a bright, luminous complexion. I can’t wait to give this a try!

The Origins Maskimizer™ Skin-Optimizing Mask Primer sounds interesting! It’s a skin-optimizing pre-treatment for masking. It preps and primes skin before mask application. The sample is teeny tiny (about the size of a perfume sample). But I love Origins so I’m looking forward to trying something new from them. Also included is a packet of the Clear Improvement Active Charcoal Mask and Drink-Up Intensive Overnight Mask.

The Bite Beauty Amuse Bouche Lipstick in Kimchi – Shocking Pink is so pretty! I’ve seen a few Bite Beauty reviews floating around and I keep telling myself I need to try some, but never got around to it. It’s safe to say that some of these are officially making it to my next wishlist. Look how pigmented it is! And it was so creamy! I don’t think that Kimchi would have been my first choice, but it’s very pretty and I’ll totally rock the heck out of it!

I don’t use lip liners often, but they’re good to have on hand. The tarte Tarteist™ Lip Crayon in Latergram is pretty nice.

I decided to list the fragrance sample because I’ve grown to love them over the years. I remember when I’d get upset if I saw a perfume sample in one of my subscription boxes. I can totally see why some might feel like it’s a filler product, but I’ve found them to be helpful. I found so many of my favorite scents through perfume samples. I keep all of my perfume samples in a decorative MAC box on top of my toolbox. Sometimes I’ll reach in and grab something random to spray on. It’s nice to try something new.

The Atelier Cologne Orange Sanguine Cologne Absolue Pure Perfume has a refreshing and uplifting citrus scent. If you like orange/citrus scents, you’ll totally love this!

So there you have it! I’m really digging my first Play! by Sephora box. I already can’t wait for the next one!

I’d also like to mention that I plan to properly review items from my Play! by Sephora, Birchbox and Ipsy Glam Bag from now on. I actually do use the items, but I never really follow up. Some of y’all have asked about how some items perform and it got me thinking about why I don’t follow up. I guess I just forget? It can be easy to lose track when you keep adding to an already out of control collection. But I’m sure I don’t have to tell you guys about that! I promise to change that though. I might have to add on an extra day though. What do you think? Should I add on an extra day? My only other option is to keep doing 3 posts per week and push the samples to the back as I have lots of new items to review still. Whatever I decide, just know they are coming soon(ish)!

  1. It looks like the best subscription box ever!
I wish Bite Beauty were available here in Europe. I have one of their lipsticks in the old formula and think it’s AMAZING, I’d love to try the new ones!

    • I’m pretty excited to try it out as I haven’t used anything from the brand before. And it really is a pretty great box. Well, so far. :)

  2. Kimchi is such a beautiful colour! Love it! xx

  3. That is the struggle: So many products to talk about, but so little time to write and publish! I keep an Excel sheet where I plan out my reviews, so I get a review up before I mention it in my Empties video…

    • It really is! I usually jot things down in my planner and resort to my calendar plugin for a visual. But right now I have posts lined up for the next month and with new stuff coming I have to push some of those back a bit. If I were to review some of the samples I wouldn’t be able to post them for another 2 months at least! I was toying with the idea of adding a Sunday post. Sample Sunday has a nice ring to it!

  4. On an unrelated note… WE FINALLY HAVE SEPHORA IN SWITZERLAND! :-) Went to the opening last night. Sooooo happy.

  6. Back when I did review ipsy, I always write a short review on each product but my post will be up later in the month. I have seen a few play! by Sephora boxes but must say they haven’t been very impressive. The first box was amazing but the subsequent boxes not so much.

    • I guess it would make more sense to do that rather than my first impressions, but I doubt I would even use all of the products. I’ve actually been watching a lot of unboxing videos on Play! and have liked the looks of them all. But everyone does have different taste! But that’s just it with these subscription boxes. They really are hit or miss. I just personally feel with Play! I get more hit items.

  7. I also just received it and I’m SO happy with this box! This is everything I’ve ever wanted a beauty subscription box to be: high end brands, lots of makeup, new and exciting products! Honestly I don’t mind that everything is sample-size, as long as the products are exciting. I’m also already thinking about the next box and I can’t wait!

    • I feel the same as you, Lulle! I read that a lot of people didn’t care for the sizes too, but I can’t even tell you how many times I’ve received a full sized sample from another subscription box only to never even use it. A few of these items were on my loves list at some point or other so I’m happy to be able to try them finally.

  8. It seems to be one of the best beauty boxes :-) Love the adorable packaging. And, on top of that it contains best lip product brands Bite and Tarte.

    Nice post Lisa. Thanks!!
