May 2016 Birchbox

Here is my May 2016 Birchbox!

I was pretty excited to see the Juliette Has a Gun Another Oud fragrance included in my box. I received the Juliette Has a Gun Not a Perfume in my September Birchbox and LOVED it! I remember it being nice and light. It was the perfect scent. This one? Not so much. My first reaction was to gag. Then it made me cough. It’s very strong and unpleasant. And boy does that scent stay with you.

The COOLA® Classic Face Sport SPF 50 White Tea sounds pretty nice. And with the weather getting nicer most of my walks will be done outdoors so a good sunscreen is always nice to have on hand. According to the Birchbox Breakdown it’s SPF 50 and waterproof for up to 80 minutes! They claim it’s formulated specifically for sensitive skin without causing irritation or breakouts. It’s infused with primrose and linseed oils to balance moisture levels and even skin tone. They also mention that the white tea scent smells better than traditional sunscreens, but it smells pretty similar to other sunscreens in my opinion. I’ll definitely give this a try though.

Now let’s talk about the ModelCo Lip Lacquer in Morocco. According to the Birchbox Breakdown these lacquers provide rich high pigment color plus major shine in just one swipe. Nope. In my swatch up there I had to go over it a few times just to get it to show up. The high shine part I get since it’s a gloss. It also claims to be a non-sticky formula and while it’s not overly sticky it is a little sticky. It also has a lingering fruity scent which I don’t really care for. With all that being said, it’s still a very pretty gloss. I’ll probably work it into a look later on this week, but I doubt I’ll be hanging onto it.

The Davroe Ends Repair is a leave-in treatment for split ends. It prevents split ends from coming back by strengthening hair with rice and wheat proteins. I’m pretty excited to give this a try. And it smells nice!

The GOLDFADEN MD™ Doctor’s Scrub sounds like a nice exfoliating scrub. It contains antioxidant rich seaweed and organic red tea extract. This also smells nice.

It’s not an overly exciting box, but there are a few items I can’t wait to dig into.

Swatches: The Beauty Crop PBJ Smoothie Stick, IPKN Moist & Firm Beauty Balm SPF 45

Back when I first joined beauty subscription boxes I started to acquire lots of samples I had absolutely no interest in whatsoever. I joined because I do like the idea of being introduced to new and exciting things. But out of 4-5 samples I’d be lucky to find just one of them to be new and exciting. So I started giving the samples I didn’t want to my mother-in-law. She never really said much of anything. Months would go by and then she’d hand me an empty container telling me she loved it and wanted more. That’s why I decided to sign back up for a few subscriptions. It’s the one thing the mother-in-law and I can share together. It’s fun watching her face light up over a product she loves and that works for her.

So here is my first Birchbox of the year! And it arrived just in time for my mother-in-law’s birthday. So I’ll be including a few of these in her birthday package.

First up is the TOCCA Crema da Mano – Hand Cream. I received the scent Bianca which is green tea and lemon. It smells so nice, but it can be a little overwhelming at times. It smells like a light floral perfume. It absorbs very quickly and leaves my hands feeling incredibly smooth.

The Briogeo Don’t Despair, Repair! Deep Conditioning Mask looks like a keeper. From the Birchbox website: ‘Avocado, almond, and argan oils work together to nourish, repair, hydrate, and add shine. Strengthening keratin protein, conditioning rosehip oil, soothing aloe, and essential vitamins B5, D, A, E, and biotin help increase hair elasticity and moisture to prevent breakage. This formula is made without parabens, silicones, or phthalates.’ And it smells amazing! I’ll definitely give this a try.

The The Beauty Crop PBJ Smoothie Stick is cute, but I’ll probably pass this on to my mother-in-law because it’s totally something she’d love. The shade is really pretty. I received the shade Guava Nice Day. It does smell fruity like jelly, but I’m not really getting the peanut butter part of it.

I can’t wait to try the Marcelle New·Age 8 in 1 Power Serum. The lightweight antiaging gel claims to work in just one week. Well, we shall see about that!

Last, but certainly not least is the IPKN Moist & Firm Beauty Balm SPF 45. It’s a multitasking BB cream that contains SPF 45. It also contains vitamin e and collagen. I received the shade Light/Medium which looks like a close enough match. I’ll definitely give it a try. Even though I don’t really wear BB creams. We’ll see how it goes.

Now can we talk about how cute the box is? Honestly, I think I’m most excited about the box. I usually keep the prettier boxes to organize things around the house. And with Spring cleaning in full effect I just know I’ll put it to good use.

Also, I’m not sure if any of you remember how late my boxes would arrive? I remember complaining a few times about how my box would ship from the Midwest, travel to the East Coast, only to make its way back to the Midwest again. This box arrived within the week! Not two weeks! Not three weeks! ONE WEEK! I hope this continues!

December 2015 Birchbox

The Beauty Crop Lighting Crew Highlighting Cream

Swatches: Eyeshadow Duo, Highlighting Cream

Sorry to be posting my December 2015 Birchbox in January. I’m just now sorting through all of the stuff I’ve accumulated over the holidays. Believe me when I tell you… it’s a lot. I’m getting through the pile though!

I guess it wouldn’t be a Birchbox if I didn’t get yet another volumizing spray. Hah! The Serge Normant Dream Big Instant Volumizing Spray sounds nice. Maybe I’ll actually hold onto this one and give it a try.

During the winter hand creams come in really handy. The Soap & Paper Factory Shea Butter Hand Cream is really nice. The scent is a bit much, but it’s still pleasant. I personally prefer more subtle and less perfumey scents. After a while it’s not so strong and it really does leave my hands feeling softer and smoother.

The Beauty Crop Lighting Crew Highlighting Cream sounds interesting. It’s a versatile cream with green tea and antioxidants. It works under your foundation or can be combined with your body lotion for a luminous look. I’ll definitely give it a try.

*This sample arrived a little leaky which spilled into the cap. It’s not too bad, but I had to work quickly and couldn’t set it down otherwise more came spilling out. On the plus side you get to see how rich it looks!

I’m all about the hair oils lately. So you can bet that the Beauty Protector Protect & Oil will be getting a lot of use. It smells like a few of the other Beauty Protector products I’ve used. Which to me smells like vanilla.

And last, but certainly not least is the Coastal Scents® styleEYES Palette. I received a cute little duo. I’ll definitely work this into a look later on this week. There’s not much to say about it. The lighter shade was pretty powdery, but the darker shade was much more pigmented. And it’s actually really pretty. I really like getting those little Coastal Scents samples so I’m pretty excited to try it out.
