Swatches: M$LF, Cougar, Low Cut, Stacy’s Mom

About a month back Lime Crime had a really sweet deal going on. I went a little crazy and grabbed quite a few Velvetines including the M$LF Velvetines Set. I loved the first one I tried out so much that I just couldn’t wait to place another order. I like to wait for good deals though. Or new releases. And boy did I luck out! I believe I paid half price for the set. It’s originally $50.00.

The M$LF Velvetines set comes in a cute pink box. It looks like a cigarette box. I’m not a smoker, but the box is still super cute. The set contains 4 Velvetines. All of them applied nicely and evenly. For the most part I did find them to be very long lasting. I also found them to be some of the most comfortable liquid lipsticks I’ve ever tried. And they smell like cake!

Cougar is described as a grey taupe. This is the only shade I didn’t get a picture of. I didn’t care for how it looked on me. I might give it another go with a different eye look.

Low Cut

Low Cut is described as a true terracotta. I’m really loving this shade lately.

M$LF

MSLF is described as a Rose Nude. I found that this looked nothing like the swatch posted on the website. Actually NONE of the lipsticks looked anything like the swatches on the website. But this one bummed me out the most. Don’t get me wrong. It’s a gorgeous nude shade. But I was hoping for that really nice MLBB shade that’s depicted on the website. Instead this is a true (barely there) nude.

Stacy’s Mom

Stacy’s Mom is described as a sugar plum mauve. I actually prefer the actual shade of this over the website swatch. I’m digging the muted plum look on me. My only issue with this shade is that it wasn’t even filled all the way. You can see in the photo below. I’m really bummed because this was the shade I was most excited about.

Overall, I think it’s a really cute set and I was lucky to get it at a really great price. However, if you’re hoping for those vibrant shades depicted on the website, you might be disappointed. Because for me they were WAY off!

Swatch

Ahhh! Velvetines! I could easily buy each and every single shade. And if you know me you know that I probably will. I’m such a sucker for liquid lipsticks. I see one and I want it. Or need it. Definitely need.

I have been wanting Cashmere for the longest time. But when I went to order my Venus Palette I saw Faded and decided on that shade instead. Faded is described as a light mauve. I seem to have a thing for mauve these days, huh? The applicator was super soft and made for the perfect application. It applied perfectly and I didn’t even have to use my lip brush! Also, it smelled like cake! Sweet, delicious, cake!

For the most part this was in fact long lasting. But it did start to fade around 6-7 hours. It was very comfortable and lightweight. Faded is definitely a winner in my book. I love everything about this lipstick. And the packaging is just too pretty! I seriously cannot get enough of Lime Crime’s packaging. I have to say that their packaging is easily one of the prettiest. I’ll definitely purchase a few more of these. I’m thinking I need True Love in my life.

You can see Faded in action below.

Lime Crime Goodies

I finally placed my first ever Lime Crime order! I’ve been wanting the Venus Palette ever since I first laid eyes on it. But it was always sold out whenever I went to purchase it and at some point I just stopped trying. Recently I was doing some window-shopping and saw that it was finally in stock so I ordered it. And you just know I had to get one of the Velvetines being the liquid lipstick lover that I am.

It took about a week for my package to arrive. When I first opened it I was a little concerned with the packing. The Venus Palette was tucked inside a very thin bubble wrap envelope and the Velvetines was sitting on top of it. There was no other padding aside from the neatly folded tissue paper. Nothing was damaged, but I was really surprised at the lack of protection.

See what I mean?

The Venus Palette was the first thing I reached for. Right away I noticed what looked like a brush marking. You know how sometimes eyeshadows come nicked? Well, this wasn’t a nick. This was a clear brush marking. Upon closer inspection I noticed that the mirror was smudged as if it had been wiped down. If I had purchased these items at the store I would have returned them both and requested a refund. But I hate the process of returning things purchased online. But the more I thought about it the more it bothered me so I took my issues to their chat.

I was greeted right away. I voiced my concerns and the chat representative apologized and said there was no way that it could have been used as their returns are sent to a different facility. However, she said that she could send me a replacement and within the hour I was emailed a new order confirmation. I was very pleased with how my issue was handled.

A few days later my new Venus Palette arrived. This one was packaged a little better and thankfully there were no brush markings this time. The packaging is beautiful! The palette contains 8 eyeshadows. Venus is described as the color of bruised fruit AKA marsala, Shell is an opalescent shell-pink, Aura is a pearlescent ivory, Creation is a rust brown, Icon is a dark brown, Rebirth is described as the color of an over-ripe nectarine, Divine is a dusty stone, and Muse is a deep burgundy red.

The shadows are gorgeous and nicely pigmented. Most are soft and almost creamy, but a few were on the dry side. You can kind of tell from my swatches. However, I didn’t have any issues when I applied them. They applied and blended beautifully! I didn’t have any issues with creasing either.

This palette is very beautiful! I can definitely see what the hype was all about. The packaging is beautiful. The shadows are even more beautiful. I love it and I’m glad I finally got to add it to my collection. And kudos to Lime Crime for their excellent customer service! I truly am impressed with their chat feature and how quickly my problem was addressed. I don’t really know what to make of the first palette, but Lime Crime did act quickly and made it right in the end.

You can see a look I created with the Venus Palette below.

I used Divine on my lid, Shell in my inner crease, Rebirth and Muse in my outer crease and lower lash line, and Aura as my highlight and on the inner corner of my eye. I’ve seen some pretty amazing things done with this palette. I played it safe by keeping it simple and throwing in a little color for a fun Spring look. In fact I’ve been rocking this look since the palette arrived. I’ll change it up eventually.
