Makeup storage: 2020

Makeup storage

This post is long overdue! I haven’t shared my setup since we moved over 3 years ago! I had scheduled this to post last year, but kept bumping it. Before I knew it the year was over. I thought it might be the perfect first post of 2020. Otherwise who knows when or if I’ll ever get around to sharing it?

I contemplated retaking the photos since it looks a little different now. The setup is the same. The way I have everything organized is the same. I did however accumulate a lot more product last year. Then I went on a decluttering spree and gave a lot away. But it’s really less about what’s inside the storage units and more about the actual storage. So I decided not to retake the photos.

Makeup storage

Inside my closet I have 2 Alex drawers. The left set of drawers contains skin care products and nail polish. The right set of drawers contains face products, samples, and empties. I have everything organized in these baskets which can be found at Walmart. I’ve gone back and forth with whether or not to switch them out for the acrylic organizers, but decided to stick with the baskets. First of all, they are a lot more affordable. Second, I can easily add on by visiting my local Walmart. Third, it’s so much easier to reach products in the back by sliding the front basket out and the back basket forward. The acrylic organizers might look much nicer, but I have a feeling they’d be more of a hassle for me. You can see how I have my drawers organized below. I decided to share just a few photos so that this post isn’t so photo-heavy.

My toolbox contains lip and eye products. This was my original setup. Back when I first started this was my only storage unit. I outgrew it pretty fast. If you look back on my posts you might even read about how I swore I’d never need more than this. Oops?

My vanity consists of 2 Alex drawers and a table topper. The left set of drawers contains makeup and the right set of drawers contains props and such. The very first drawer on the left side contains brushes, the second drawer contains essentials, the first drawer contains my favorites, the fourth drawer contains makeup removing products as well as brush cleansers, and the last drawer contains new products that I need to test.

I try to keep the top of my vanity clear. Especially since that’s where I take my photos. I’ve since added 2 small baskets. One for products I recently used so that I can mention it in my blog post. And one for products I’m currently testing out. I plan to replace the mirror and chair this year. Other than that everything else will remain the same. This is what works for me.

2019 Favorites

2019 Favorites

It’s the last post of the year. It’s time for my 2019 favorites! I actually struggled with this one a bit because I didn’t purchase much throughout the year. I feel like I’ve said that a lot throughout my last few posts, but it’s true. I’m really trying to make an effort to use what I have. I did cave on some releases, but I didn’t really splurge. But going through my drawer I can see that I certainly did have some favorites.

I’m not sure if I ever talked about my process. It changes a little every year. I have a favorites drawer in my vanity. It’s the 3rd drawer down. Any time I have a favorite I place it in there. Whenever I’m in a rush and need to do a quick look I reach into the 3rd drawer. At the end of the year I clean it out and start fresh in the beginning of the year. Then I go through my posts for the year and match them up with whatever is in my drawer to create my roundup post. I’d like to note that I do keep some favorites from the previous years in my drawer because they have become staples. However, I won’t mention them again because it would be boring to mention the same products year after year.

Emile Cordon Miracle Lip Balm

Emile Cordon Miracle Lip Balm
The first on the list is the Emile Cordon Miracle Lip Balm. I’ve especially been loving Charlotte. I’ve reached for it quite a bit this year. I even put a decent dent in it. It’s the prettiest shade of red, so moisturizing and it smells amazing!

IT Cosmetics Your Desert Island Must Haves

IT Cosmetics Your Desert Island Must Haves
Out of this trio of brushes I’ve been using the Highlight Brush pretty much every time I do my makeup. I absolutely love it! It’s incredibly soft and applies just the right amount of product for me. I even use the water bottle.

Sugarpill Liquid Lip Color in Hijinx

Sugarpill Liquid Lip Color in Hijinx
After trying and loving Trinket, I was so excited to see even more sparkle infused matte shades being released. Hijinx was definitely my favorite of the year. Although I’m still eying the Pumpkin Spice 2. I still have to try that one. But Hijinx is my favorite this year.

Smile Brilliant cariPRO Electric Toothbrush

Smile Brilliant cariPRO Electric Toothbrush
Shortly after receiving the Smile Brilliant cariPRO Electric Toothbrush, I threw out my old electric toothbrush. This one is so much better in so many different ways. It’s not as bulky, the brush heads are so much cheaper, it has a sensitive setting, and it holds a charge for a ridiculously long time! I only have to charge it about once a month. It could probably go longer if I let it. Don’t forget to use my code midwestglam20 for 20% off!

ColourPop Pressed Powder Shadow Palette in It’s My Pleasure

ColourPop Pressed Powder Shadow Palette in It’s My Pleasure
Of course this palette made it to my favorites drawer! It’s purple. It contains some of the prettiest jewel toned shades ever. The shadows applied and blended beautifully. It’s the perfect palette for people who love purple.

Pixi Beauty Skintreats

Pixi Beauty DetoxifEYE
I’m really digging the Pixi Beauty DetoxifEYE eye patches. At least once a week I pop these on myself and my husband. I love the cooling sensation. It’s so refreshing. They always leave my eyes looking brighter and more awake. I also love that they are gentle enough on my sensitive skin. The husband also gives them two thumbs up.

Caudalie Grape Water

Caudalie Grape Water
The Caudalie Grape Water has quickly become a favorite. I buy so many of these throughout the year. I use it as a toner of sorts spraying it on after cleansing and just before applying moisturizer. I also use it to help calm down rosacea flareups. I also use it to spray my guys down in passing haha! They love the refreshing feeling. So do I!

Derma Thereal Overnight Rejuvenation Cream (20 MG)

Derma Thereal Overnight Rejuvenation Cream (20 MG)
The Derma Thereal Overnight Rejuvenation Cream is easily my favorite night cream. It only contains about 20 MG of CBD which isn’t much, but I’m convinced that it does something. My skin is left looking and feeling so hydrated. It helps tame my redness and doesn’t irritate my sensitive skin. I appreciate that it doesn’t contain fragrance. I do detect a light powdery scent, but it’s so not bothersome. In fact I really like it. I can’t help but smell it every time I go to apply it. It has a nice light, airy texture. I hope this formula never changes because it’s seriously wonderful. I’m definitely planning to try more from the brand. The good thing is since it’s a local brand I can find it locally.

Charlotte Tilbury

Full Fat Lashes in Glossy Black
I haven’t been able to put this mascara down since receiving it. It’s the most lightweight mascara I’ve ever used. I would have to say this is my favorite mascara of the year. Next to the Sephora Collection LashCraft of course.

lilah b.

Divine Duo Lip & Cheek in b. memorable
I have yet to try the lilah b. Divine Duo Lip & Cheek in b. memorable on my cheeks. But it is by far my most favorite lip shade of the year! It’s a gorgeous shade and it feels so comfortable on my lips. I hate that it’s so pricey for just a little bit of product, but I truly do love it.

Have you tried any of these products? What are some of your favorites from this year?

*I received some of these products complimentary. I was not paid or compensated in any way to write this post. All opinions are completely my own.
