Swatch: Kat Von D Everlasting Liquid Lipstick in K-Dub

After quite a few disappointing Play! boxes I’m really happy to report that the June box is a winner! I’m digging the Summer Starters theme.

Ok so I wasn’t too excited to receive another Benefit Cosmetics The POREfessional Face Primer, but at least it’s something I can use. Not that I’ll get much use from Benefit’s super tiny samples.

I was very excited to see Kat Von D Everlasting Liquid Lipstick in K-Dub though! Kat Von D’s liquid lipsticks are some of the first I’ve tried and fell in love with. And I don’t already own K-Dub. It’s a gorgeous bold fuchsia that will really stand out this Summer.

The First Aid Beauty Hello FAB Coconut Skin Smoothie Priming Moisturizer is an oil-free priming moisturizer. It claims to brighten, smooth, and visibly blur pores and imperfections leaving your skin with a natural, dewy glow. I can definitely get some use from this.

I’m really digging the packaging on the IGK Rich Kid Coconut Oil Gel. It’s a coconut oil-infused gel. I assumed it would smell like coconut, but instead it smells like perfume. I don’t really wear gel, but maybe one of the guys can get some use of it.

I was also very excited to see the Ouai Rose Hair & Body Oil. I loved the past few Ouai products I’ve received. The Rose Hair & Body Oil claims to be a luxurious, fast absorbing oil that is rich in nutrients to illuminate and hydrate. I’ve only quickly tested it out and the smell isn’t so strong. I get a faint floral scent which is very nice if you’re sensitive to the stronger scents.

Last, but certainly not least is Yves Saint Laurent Black Opium. My only complaint here is that my sample bottle was only like 1/3 way full. And that’s a bummer because I really love this perfume.

Overall, I’d have to say the June box was a real winner. I was happy with everything and for the most part they’ll all get used up. No duds here!

Swatches: Greystone, Maldives Luminescent

I know it’s a little weird to post a May subscription box in June, but as I’ve mentioned before I’m really behind. If you think this is bad, wait until next week. I have a Valentine’s Day collection post set to go live. I wish I could say I was kidding. I’ve made progress on the pile that was taking over my desk though. I even did a bit of decluttering. That alone was a lot of work. It’s always sad parting with products, but if it’s something I just know I won’t reach for often I see no point in letting it go to waste. Especially when someone else can show it some love. Anyway, let’s talk about last month’s Play! by Sephora Box!

First up is the trèStiQue Highlight & Perfect Multipurpose Stick in Maldives Luminescent. This shimmering champagne pink highlighter comes in a convenient stick form. I’ve tried a concealer stick from the brand and love it! I’m sure I’ll love this pretty highlighter too.

I was pretty excited to try something from NUDESTIX, but I don’t think I’m feeling the NUDESTIX Magnetic Matte Lip Color in Greystone. I’m all for a pretty greige, but this looks more brown than anything. I’ll be adding this to my declutter bag.

I didn’t have a lot of luck with the last essence I tried. But I suppose it couldn’t hurt to give the belif Hungarian Water Essence a try. It’s an instant, lightweight, recharger serum that is said to provide deep, lasting hydration.

The Skin Laundry Gentle Foaming Face Wash is a gentle foaming cleanser with soothing cucumber and chamomile extracts. It’s suitable for all skin types. Nothing too exciting, but I do like the packaging.

I love getting hair masks in my boxes. The Rahua Omega 9 Hair Mask sounds wonderful, but I’m not digging the scent. It smells like a medicine cabinet. Not something I want my hair to smell like after hopping out of the shower/bath.

Aside from the highlighter, the only other item that I know will get use is the Tocca Stella. I just know I’ve received a few perfume samples from Tocca in the past, but I don’t mind. Stella is a wonderfully fresh scent. The blood orange is so refreshing! I added this to my loves list and plan to purchase the full size.

I’m really hoping for a better box this month. I want to try something new and exciting!

I feel like my Play boxes are getting less and less interesting. I just feel like there’s so much that could be done here yet they somehow miss the mark.

First up is the philosophy Purity Made Simple Cleanser. I actually like Philosophy and I just ran out of my go-to cleanser so this will definitely come in handy. It’s a one-step facial cleanser that is said to tone and hydrate your skin. I’ll definitely try this one out soon!

I’ve got quite a few samples of the Smashbox Iconic Photo Finish Foundation Primer in my sample drawer. For some reason I keep getting these. It’s a translucent primer gel that smooths skin and blurs flaws. I guess I can finally give it a try to see if I like it. It’ll be a good thing if I do because I have so many of them laying around!

I’m not sure if I’ve tried anything from Peter Thomas Roth. The Peter Thomas Roth Water Drench Hyaluronic Cloud Cream sounds interesting. It’s a 30% hyaluronic acid cream that transforms atmospheric vapor into fresh, pure water, providing your skin with a continuous burst of intense hydration that lasts up to 72 hours. Aside from the cleanser I think this is the only other item I’m sort of excited about.

I already have so many makeup removers (seriously I have an entire drawer full!) so I’ll probably pass the Sephora Collection Waterproof Eye Makeup Remover onto someone else.

I don’t think I’d mind receiving eyeliners if I was sent different shades. There are only so many black eyeliners you can have laying around. I’ll probably pass the Make Up For Ever Aqua XL Eye Pencil Waterproof Eyeliner onto someone else as well. I would have loved to receive one of the blue or green shades. This is what I mean about missing the mark. They could have increased my excitement with a bit of color!

The perfume sample this month is Miu Miu MIU MIU L’eau Bleue. It’s a little too ‘woodsy’ for my liking. It reminds me more of a cologne than a perfume. It’s not the worst scent in the world, it’s just not something I’d wear. I’ll be passing this one along too.

I’m really hoping for better items next month. I really want something I can get excited about! Take a page from your own book, Sephora, and um… step it up!
