Play! by Sephora: March 2017

The award for the lamest Play! by Sephora box goes to the month of March! Let’s get on with it… I guess.

I’ll start with the most exciting item in the box. The Glamglow Glowstarter Mega Illuminating Moisturizer. The brand is appealing to me and I hear nothing but great things. Their packaging is always really colorful and cute. So I’m very excited to see this included in the box this month. This moisturizer is a hydrating, super-charged cream with iridescent illuminating pearl particles to blur, reflect, and enhance your complexion for an instant luminous finish. I received the shade Nude Glow. Sephora has 2 other shades available in Pearl Glow and Sun Glow. I’ll have to properly review this beauty.

I don’t even know what to say about the addition of the Urban Decay Eyeshadow Primer Potion. I mean it is my go-to primer, but it’s really not exciting. And who doesn’t already have about a dozen of these laying around?

The Benefit Cosmetics Watt’s Up! Cream-to-Powder Highlighter is a champagne cream-to-powder highlighter. And I have about 3 of them in my sample drawer. I’m sure I’m not the only one.

You know what else I have a ton of? Hair oils! I’m sure the Verb Ghost Oil will get some use and I’m kind of digging the packaging. But I would have preferred to see something different included in my box this month.

I haven’t tried a lot of Josie Maran products and I would like to. But I don’t think the Josie Maran Surreal Skin Argan Finishing Balm would have been my first choice. It’s a skin care finisher and makeup primer in one. It sounds interesting and I’ll definitely give it a try, but it’s not really my kinda thing. I would have loved to see the Argan Enlightenment Illuminizer included instead.

The Atelier Cologne Clémentine California Cologne Absolue Pure Perfume is pretty nice. It has a nice, sweet, citrus scent that I found to be quite refreshing. It’s not something I plan to run out and purchase a full size bottle of, but I will use up the sample.

So there you have it. The least exciting box ever.

Swatches: Bound, Milkshake

So the Play! by Sephora bag this month seems to be a huge hit. Everyone is loving the bag and I can totally see why. It’s definitely one of the prettiest bags. But how about its contents? Let’s see!

The Origins GinZing™ Refreshing Eye Cream is said to rapidly wake up tired eyes while helping to reduce dark circles and bags. I’ve probably received a sample before. It sure seems familiar. But I love Origins and who couldn’t use a little extra eye cream?

I don’t have a whole lot of NARS in my life and I honestly don’t know why. I’ve loved the few items I’ve tried over the years, but it’s just not a brand I buy from often. I might have to change that! I’m pretty excited to try the NARS Velvet Lip Glide. I received the shade Bound which is a pretty rose pink with a semi-matte finish. I’ll have to use this in a look real soon!

The Too Faced Lip Injection Glossy is a moisture-rich gloss which is infused with jojoba and avocado oils to soften and smooth lips. It’s also said to give your lips a nice plumped look. I received the shade Milkshake which is a nude. The shade isn’t anything special, but it’s an interesting product and I’ll definitely give it a try. I really like the packaging!

I can’t wait to try the Clinique Pep-Start HydroBlur Moisturizer. It’s a lightweight moisturizer that blurs imperfections. Some of my favorite moisturizers are from Clinique and I’m hoping to add another favorite to that list.

I really don’t think I need another mascara laying around, but I’ll still give the Sephora Collection LashCraft Length & Volume Mascara a try.

I’ve always loved Marc Jacobs fragrances and Marc Jacobs Fragrances Divine Decadence is no exception. It’s a little on the sweet side, but it’s still very nice.

Overall, it’s a pretty nice bag this month. And the bag itself is really pretty!

Play! by Sephora: January 2017

Before I get started I want to apologize for the lack of posts around here. I have a ton of things I can’t wait to post, but my anxiety has gotten the best of me this past week. It’s really difficult trying to swatch, apply makeup, and even type when you’re feeling all kinds of shaky. But today I exchanged my morning coffee for some herbal tea and tried my best to handle my business. Thankfully I started feeling better the deeper into my work I got. I’m not sure if it was skipping caffeine or that I just had something positive to focus on. Either way I’ll take it!

So I’m going to start off with my latest Play! by Sephora box. I finally got myself a box of winners! I feel like it’s been a while.

Play! by Sephora: January 2017

First up is the tarte FRXXXTION Stick Exfoliating Cleanser. I’ve read a few reviews on this exfoliator and couldn’t wait to give it a try. So I was really excited to see it included in this month’s box. The sample size is pretty generous too. And I love the purple packaging. It’s a 3-in-1 product. It’s a cleanser, exfoliator, and a mask all in one. It’s suitable for all skin types including sensitive. To use, you twist it up, apply directly onto dampened skin using circular motions, then gently massage with your fingertips and rinse. I know that applying directly to your skin might be unsanitary, but I actually like the idea. I love my charcoal masks, but they can be messy. I’m forever having to get that stuff out from under my fingernails afterward. This straight-to-skin applicator was so much easier and cleaner!

Overall, I really loved the tarte FRXXXTION Stick Exfoliating Cleanser. It played nice with my sensitive skin. It did leave my skin feeling a little dry afterward, but it wasn’t too bad. It didn’t feel tight or anything like that. And I didn’t notice any scent.

I was also really happy to see another Caudalie product. I loved the Vinosource Moisturizing Sorbet I received in November’s box. The Caudalie Resveratrol Lift Face Lifting Moisturizer Broad Spectrum SPF 20 sounds like another winner to me. It’s an anti-aging daytime moisturizer that combines resveratrol and hyaluronic acid to lift, firm, and plump skin.

I’m always on the lookout for a good hair mask to add to my collection. The Ouai Treatment Masque sounds promising. It’s a restorative healing mask that claims to leave strands incredibly soft and smooth after just one treatment. I’ll have to put that to the test for sure. Until then what I can tell you is that it smells amazing!

I could have sworn that I already had a sample of the boscia B.B. Cream Broad Spectrum SPF 27 PA++, but I don’t. I’m not too big on BB Creams, but I’ll definitely give this one a try. I don’t think I’ve tried much from the brand so it’ll be fun to experiment.

The CLINIQUE Almost Lipstick sounds interesting. It’s a transparent lipstick that fuses with the natural tone of your lips to create a lip shade that’s unique to you. It doesn’t look anywhere near as scary as it does in the tube. Especially with a name like Black Honey which is the shade I received. This actually ended up surprising me. It glided onto my lips so easily. It does build up a bit, but it’s still pretty sheer. On me it looks like a sheer berry shade. It’s a beautiful neutral shade. And it doesn’t look super glossy which is a plus. I’ll have to work it into a look to show you just how pretty it is. I’ve added this to my loves list because I’m definitely going to purchase the full size. I just think it’s perfect for those days you don’t want to fuss over what to wear.

I really wish I could tell you about the PINROSE Wild Child, but this month I received a towlette instead of a sample bottle. Since I’m writing this super early in the morning, a time when I don’t reach for perfume, I can’t exactly test it out. Because once I open the packet it’ll dry up and then I won’t be able to use it. And judging by the notes listed on Sephora’s website, it seems like something I’ll like. So I’m going to hold onto this until I’m ready to get dressed. I seriously hope I don’t see anymore of these towelettes. Trying to convince me that it’s perfect for on-the-go as if the tiny sample bottles aren’t just as travel friendly is rather insulting.

Aside from the towlette, everything in this month’s box is new to me and for the most part pretty exciting. I’ve even added a few to my loves list so that I can purchase full sizes.
