Swatches: bareMinerals bareSkin® Sheer Sun™ Serum Bronzer, BECCA Backlight Priming Filter

This month’s Play! by Sephora box is called The Minimalists. ‘Effortless Is More – Next-level nudes and no-maintenance naturals: this month, we’re pairing it down for understated style that proves sometimes less really is more. Get a low-key look for Summer with a game-changing hair cream, refreshingly lightweight sunscreen, and more must-haves for creating an easygoing appeal.’ I’m really digging this box and the whole less is more vibe. I think it’s perfect for Summer and this nasty heat wave we’ve been experiencing here. Let’s dig in!

Last year Kimmy from Beauty Isles reviewed the tarte Tarteguard 30 Sunscreen Lotion Broad Spectrum SPF 30. I ended up wishlisting and then purchasing it afterward. I really liked it and recently ran out so I’m glad to have a sample size to hold me over until I can repurchase it. It’s nice and lightweight and is perfect on those days I’m out and about.

I know I’ve tried the Benefit Cosmetics They’re Real! Lengthening & Volumizing Mascara, but I don’t remember if I liked it or not. If I’m not mistaken I think the brush nearly poked out an eye? I don’t remember which ones have hurt me. I guess I’ll find out soon enough.

The Bumble and bumble Don’t Blow It seems interesting. It’s an innovative cream that adds body and enhances fine-medium hair textures for a laid-back, air-dried style. I’ll give it a go!

I’m pretty excited to try the BECCA Backlight Priming Filter. It’s a shimmering makeup primer that acts as a soft-focus filter to blur imperfections and give skin an effortless, luminous look. I tried to pump a pea sized amount for the swatch just like the directions stated, but much more came out. The pump is very touchy!

The bareMinerals bareSkin® Sheer Sun™ Serum Bronzer looks like fun! It’s a blendable, lightweight liquid bronzer that may be worn alone or over foundation to give skin a sheer, natural looking touch of sun. I’ll definitely be working this beauty into a look this week.

Last, but certainly not least is the Tocca Florence fragrance. I don’t usually like floral fragrances. I find most to be overwhelming. But this one is perfect! It’s pretty strong, but I wouldn’t say it’s overwhelming. It’s pleasant and uplifting. It’s a sophisticated blend of bergamot, violet petals, and blonde wood. Definitely not the notes I’m typically drawn to, but somehow I am. It’s definitely going on my wishlist!

I’d have to say that this is another great Play! by Sephora box! All of the items are usable and some are even new to me. I’m really loving this subscription so far! I seriously cannot express that enough.

Swatches: Kimchi, Latergram

Holy crap, you guys! I finally got off the wait list for Play! by Sephora! I kind of forgot all about it until someone mentioned on Twitter last month that it was open to new subscribers. I was confused for a moment because I remember adding myself to the wait list when it first launched. I just assumed that once my number was up I’d get to finally subscribe. I guess that’s not how this works? Anyway, I went ahead and subscribed and then shared with everyone on all of my social networks so that others could subscribe too. I hope I was able to at least help someone. If not I’ll definitely keep an eye out. I have a few friends who would love so subscribe too.

Anyway, let’s dig in! Here’s what I received in my first box…

I actually received the Briogeo Don’t Despair, Repair!™ Deep Conditioning Mask in my April Birchbox. I haven’t gotten around to using it yet. Now I have two! I felt bad about not passing it on to my MIL since she especially loves hair care products. I’ll definitely include this one in her monthly beauty bag.

I had the KORRES Wild Rose + Vitamin C Advanced Brightening Sleeping Facial on my wishlist for a little while. It’s an overnight facial treatment for uneven skin tone and dark spots that’s said to leave you with a bright, luminous complexion. I can’t wait to give this a try!

The Origins Maskimizer™ Skin-Optimizing Mask Primer sounds interesting! It’s a skin-optimizing pre-treatment for masking. It preps and primes skin before mask application. The sample is teeny tiny (about the size of a perfume sample). But I love Origins so I’m looking forward to trying something new from them. Also included is a packet of the Clear Improvement Active Charcoal Mask and Drink-Up Intensive Overnight Mask.

The Bite Beauty Amuse Bouche Lipstick in Kimchi – Shocking Pink is so pretty! I’ve seen a few Bite Beauty reviews floating around and I keep telling myself I need to try some, but never got around to it. It’s safe to say that some of these are officially making it to my next wishlist. Look how pigmented it is! And it was so creamy! I don’t think that Kimchi would have been my first choice, but it’s very pretty and I’ll totally rock the heck out of it!

I don’t use lip liners often, but they’re good to have on hand. The tarte Tarteist™ Lip Crayon in Latergram is pretty nice.

I decided to list the fragrance sample because I’ve grown to love them over the years. I remember when I’d get upset if I saw a perfume sample in one of my subscription boxes. I can totally see why some might feel like it’s a filler product, but I’ve found them to be helpful. I found so many of my favorite scents through perfume samples. I keep all of my perfume samples in a decorative MAC box on top of my toolbox. Sometimes I’ll reach in and grab something random to spray on. It’s nice to try something new.

The Atelier Cologne Orange Sanguine Cologne Absolue Pure Perfume has a refreshing and uplifting citrus scent. If you like orange/citrus scents, you’ll totally love this!

So there you have it! I’m really digging my first Play! by Sephora box. I already can’t wait for the next one!

I’d also like to mention that I plan to properly review items from my Play! by Sephora, Birchbox and Ipsy Glam Bag from now on. I actually do use the items, but I never really follow up. Some of y’all have asked about how some items perform and it got me thinking about why I don’t follow up. I guess I just forget? It can be easy to lose track when you keep adding to an already out of control collection. But I’m sure I don’t have to tell you guys about that! I promise to change that though. I might have to add on an extra day though. What do you think? Should I add on an extra day? My only other option is to keep doing 3 posts per week and push the samples to the back as I have lots of new items to review still. Whatever I decide, just know they are coming soon(ish)!
