Swatches

When I first saw the NYX In Your Element Shadow Palettes, I knew I was going to make one of them mine. It was difficult deciding which one since there weren’t many reviews floating around. There still aren’t! So I went to my local Ulta and swatched them personally. The Earth Palette was the only one that caught my eye. The Metal Palette was also very nice, but I need a few mattes to create a full look. So I settled on the Earth Palette.

The shimmery shades were really pigmented and very easy to work with. The mattes needed a bit of building up, but were still fairly easy to work with. The shades all applied much nicer on the lids than they did on my arm. My only issue is that I don’t think the shades play that nicely together. I used 4 different shades for this eye look and it looks like I maybe used 2? I guess the color combination is difficult to work with to begin with. But when I saw it I kind of grouped together the shades I thought would work together, but then it ended up looking like one single color. You can see what I mean below.

I still think it’s very pretty and I’ll probably get use of that green during the Holidays. I’ll definitely use a few of the shades, but I’ll have to reach for other shadows to create a full look. Overall, I’d have to say this is a bit of a miss for me. I’m just not completely sold on this palette.

Have you tried any of the NYX In Your Element Shadow Palettes? What are your thoughts?

  1. I have not seen this palette where I work but definitely will keep an eye out for it.

  2. Wow, if you just showed me the swatches, I would have thought it was a higher end brand. That’s too bad they were difficult to use on the eyes – I hate shadows that end up blending away or looking muddy. Your eye look still turned out really nice though.

  3. What I find rather shocking about these palettes is the price. $30 for a NYX palette, wow! I can get a high-end palette for that, with less shades maybe but a better shadow quality. But that’s just my opinion!

    • Oh I agree! My friend and I discussed just that and decided to skip. Until they had a sale and I was able to apply a coupon. I ended up paying like $14 for it. And I still don’t think it’s worth it.

  4. You look gorgeous, Lisa!! The palette looks pretty but I’m not sure if the color combos go together. They’re pretty random, I think, haha. But you made it look great!
