Swatches: Illuminator, Eyeliner, Brow gel

Here is my June 2016 Birchbox! And boy is it an exciting one! Let’s dig in!

Birchbox says that the Supergoop!® Defense Refresh Setting Mist SPF 50 is a 3-in-one mist. Part makeup setter, oil controller and UV protector. It sounds impressive. I’m not so sure how I feel about the rosemary and mint scent, but I’ll definitely give this a try.

I was so excited to see what the Benefit gimme brow volumizing fiber gel could do for my poor brows. I immediately ripped this baby open and gave it a try. First, the shade is off. I received the lightest shade which is way too light for my super dark brows. So it’s a little difficult for me to say if it actually works. I decided to apply it anyway to get a feel for it and see if it might be something I’d like. I don’t. The brush is small enough to get in there and fill in where needed. But I felt that it looked cakey. It did make my brows look a little fuller and I’m sure if I had the right shade it would have looked much fuller. But I still don’t like the end result. I feel like this might work better for those who have a nice brow shape and no bald spots or patches. I have a few spots where the hair doesn’t grow back anymore which is probably why it looks so bad. Just figured I’d mention that.

When I saw the word peel I thought I had another product I couldn’t use on my sensitive skin. But the Real Chemistry Luminous 3-Minute Peel – Body isn’t just for your face! According to Birchbox this acid-free formula is developed for the full body! I can’t wait to see how this works!

My highlighter stash is quickly growing. The Laura Geller New York Baked Gelato Swirl Illuminator will make a wonderful addition. I received the shade Gilded Honey. Look how beautiful it is! I’m totally going to work this into a look this week!

Last up is the ARDENCY INN MODSTER Smooth Ride Supercharged Eyeliner in black. I’m a little bummed to be getting yet another eyeliner. And a black one at that. I know I said you can never have enough, but come on, man! I would have been excited if I had received that gorgeous turquoise instead!

Despite the one item I can’t use I still find this month’s box to be exciting. And the box itself is super pretty!

  1. Thanks for sharing. I see what you mean about getting the same eyeliner — turquoise would have been a lovely addition to the box!

    • Yes it would have! I mean I can always use a good black eyeliner, but I seem to be getting one every month lol! I think I just really wanted that turquoise!

  2. That’s a great box! I haven’t tried Gimme Brow but have only read very positive reviews before so it’s interesting to read a different perspective. That Laura Geller Illuminator is beautiful! xx

    • It really is and I was so excited to try the Gimme Brow. But I think receiving a shade that was much too light played a big part in it. The illiminator is perfect!

  3. That highlighter looks like something to eat, so pretty.

  4. I’ve swatched the LG Highlighter and it’s just beautiful :-) The body peel sounds interesting too :-)

  5. I never tried it before… looks like worth a try! Great post though :)

  6. Pretty nice box with lots of interesting brands! I’ve used Gimme Brow for years (in the older packaging) and I really like it, but you’re right, it works best when you have a good brow shape to start with. It looks perfect right after I’ve plucked and shaped my brows, but as soon as I have re-growth and the shape is not as sharp, it starts looking a bit messy.

    • Yeah I kind of figured it would work best with already nicely shaped brows (and the right shade). Mine are just far too patchy for it to work. Which is a shame because I was so excited to try it.

  7. I’ve got a sample of the Supergoop setting spray and I had such high hopes for it…a setting spray with SPF? My dream. Unfortunately, I’m not a fan. It feels a little sticky on the skin but my major issue was the lack of a fine mist – but maybe that’s just the sample and the spray on the full size is better. Anyway, my rant aside, this is a fantastic box I think!

    • Awww that’s too bad! I haven’t tried it yet, but I so hope that isn’t the case. Being sticky is a gross feeling. Yes, it was a pretty great box!
