Lipstick organization

In this post I will talk about how I organize and store my lipstick. First of all, this isn’t a permanent setup for me. With all of the moving around I haven’t had the chance to add on. I’ll eventually get around to a more permanent storage once I decide on one. I’ve seriously considered splurging on one of these spinning lipstick towers, but I might just end up getting another pink box. I really like how they keep my products free from dust. Plus I feel like they’d just be safer all tucked away. Although that tower does look cool as hell!

If you’ve seen some of my photos on Instagram or some older blog posts, you know that I store all of my makeup in a pink toolbox. The first drawer holds all of my lip products.

Lipstick organization

I used to organize them based on collection. Believe it or not I could just reach for a specific shade of lipstick without looking at the name. But as my collection grew I just couldn’t keep up. Of course it didn’t help that I’d leave a shade out on my desk or in my purse and end up putting something else in its place. So I decided to swatch them on a label.

Lipstick label swatches

I bought some labels, cut them in half, swatched a lipstick, stuck the label to the lipstick, and placed a small piece of tape over it to ensure the lipstick swatch wouldn’t smudge.

Here are the labels I use

I originally went crazy looking for those tiny circle labels and when I finally found some I realized they were way too small. It’s a little more time consuming to cut these labels in half, but it’s the perfect size and it gets the job done. Is this the best method ever? Probably not. But it works for me! I can easily make out what each lipstick is instead of flipping each one over trying to make out the name on the bottom.

Note: On the limited edition packaging I place the label and tape on the side without the writing/design. I don’t want to chance ruining the pretty packaging. I didn’t even bother to label the Archie’s Girls Collection lipsticks because the design is all around the tube and since that’s easily my favorite collection there’s no way in hell I was going to mess with it.

And now for a bonus photo…

  2. I LOVE LOVE LOVE all your lipsticks. I wish I had that many. I have like 1/3 of that LOL.Shoved in like 4 different drawers. It’s sad. I’m working on improving the situation though! The pink box is really really cute. How tall does it stand?

    • Thank you, Janine! :) It’s about 3 feet tall. You can also add onto this particular style which I like. I think I’m going to get the smaller one that sits on top for all of my lipsticks. I never thought I’d have to expand. Oops?

  3. I love this! Such a great way to get organized. :) It looks like the perfect ladies tool box.

  4. This is a brilliant storage idea! xx

  8. Oh man! I love it!! That is so awesome. <3 Soo pretty. Man, I use the clear cheap drawers and throw all the mattes and satins in one drawer, and the rest in the other.

    • Thank you, Becca! I’ve always been super organized even when I was younger. I don’t know any other way lol. :)

  11. I wish I could be this organized! At the moment my lipstick collection isn’t so large (I think I have somewhere in the range of 50 odd lipsticks, not including the liquid ones in tubes) so I can manage but it’s growing everyday! This is a brilliant idea!

    • Oh a makeup closet sounds nice! When I first moved into my new place I actually tried moving my tool box into the closet (it’s certainly big enough) along with all of my other beauty stuffs. But I had nowhere to put my clothes. I really do like the sound of it though.

Thanks for stopping by, Dee! And good luck with your organizing! :)
