Meet Klaus.

Did y’all know that I have the world’s cutest dog? His name is Klaus. Klaus joined our family as a puppy almost 4 years ago. In case you can’t tell, he’s a shih tzu. Some of his hobbies include staring at us while we eat, staring at us while we drink, staring at us if we touch anything that even resembles food or drink, killing off every toy set before him, and cuddling. In fact the very moment I knew he was the puppy for me was when I picked him up and he crawled right up to my chest and laid his head down. Who the heck can resist that? He’s the cutest!

Klaus – The day we brought him home.

So yeah, he loves food. Boy did he ever join the right family! Klaus will literally eat anything. One time I dropped a piece of paper towel on the floor and before I could pick it up Klaus had already jumped on it and then stared at me as if to demand more paper towel. I told you. Anything. But just because he will eat anything doesn’t mean I will feed him just anything. He’s family! I would never set anything on our dinner table without reading the list of ingredients first. The same goes for Klaus.

When we first brought him home we fed him what he was eating all along. It was some generic dog food. One day I looked at the list of ingredients and was horrified. I really didn’t want to just switch up his food so suddenly, but I knew I couldn’t keep feeding him the other stuff. So I slowly made the switch to something better. Now whenever I get him food I make sure to buy REAL food. Not the food filled with by-products, fillers, and even dyes.

Shown here is the Rachael Ray Nutrish Dish Real Beef & Brown Rice Recipe. The first thing I noticed was the large chunks of vegetables mixed throughout the bag. Looking over the ingredients list beef is in fact the first ingredient. The information card that was included in the box claims that it contains U.S. farm-raised chicken or beef which is the first ingredient. Never any corn, wheat, soy, or gluten. Delicious bits of real chicken, carrots, peas, potatoes, and apples. That sounds like it’s right up there with the food we’ve switched him to. Except for the bits of vegetables. Which Klaus really seemed to enjoy.

Can you please hurry up?

I don’t know what more to say. Klaus really seemed to enjoy it as he cleared his dish. I’m really happy with the list of ingredients. And it’s a brand that’s fairly easily accessible. Rachael Ray Nutrish Dish Real Beef & Brown Rice Recipe will be available at grocery stores starting in March.

I hope this isn’t against any rules, but the bag contained a $4.00 off coupon. I will gladly send it to the first to say they want it. I’m sorry, but I only have the one coupon so it’s a first come first serve deal here. Just let me know in the comments and then we can go from there.

  1. Klaus is such a cutie!
The quality of the food I give to my cat is also super important for me, and he has a sensitive stomach so I have to buy the expensive stuff. But then he’s in perfect shape and he’s never been sick! The consequences of poor nutrition for pets are probably even faster to show up than for humans, and the last thing I want is to make my cat unhealthy! Sometimes I hear people laugh about giving rolled tacos or burger to their dogs, and I want to shout at them…

    • Thank you, Lulle! :)

The better stuff is more expensive, but definitely worth it in the long run. And tacos? Really? One time a guy told me how he treats his dog to candy bars. I was like um no. That is not a treat, man.

  2. How cute! I have two dogs myself and they eat a fish based diet that is all wild caught. It’s a Canadian brand called Acana. We started feeding our dogs this food after one of our dogs had very bad food alergies. I will have to look into Rachel Ray’s food to see if it may be a more afordable option for them. :)

    • Thank you, Paula! Some of those treats/chews smell horrible! I stopped buying them and started baking his treats myself. Pumpkin and apples smell better than the other stuff lol.

  5. Klaus is so cute ~ I love Shih Tzus <3 I had one growing up and he was a playful love.

  6. I don’t own a dog myself, but my sister does and I have experienced from her how much of a difference there actually is in dog food.. I never would have imagined, but as you said, the difference in quality is immense and you can really spend a lot of money on good food, just like you do on your own.

  9. Aw, your pup is adorable! And I agree wholeheartedly- pets are family, so they deserve the same amount of consideration when it comes to food. <3 From the looks of this post, I think it's safe to say that Klaus made a great choice when he picked you to go home with all those years ago.

  10. Your dog looks so cute!!! :)
I’ve never had a dog, but my partner and I have been considering getting one for a while. We live in the tiniest apartment, though, so at the moment it’s probably not the best idea…

    • Thank you so much! I know what you mean. Our place is pretty small. I can’t wait until we can move into a bigger place so that he has more room to roam around. It does get a bit cramped.

  11. What a sweet post, it’s great to see people who really take care of their pets. =) Klaus is just adorable, and he looks so healthy!

Although, I got to admit, I’m one of those people who will give their dogs bad foods as treats… I don’t eat healthy 100% of the time, why should my pets? I just don’t give them bad food consistently, but I do find it a little overbearing to tell people off for giving their dog like… french fries. They aren’t exactly good for me, either! =P

    • Awww thanks, Zovesta! I think it’s just like feeding your children. Someone is always going to have an opinion or try to tell you what is best. Ultimately we as the parents/fur parents gets to decide what that is. I would never judge. My husband sometimes gives him lunch meats or chips. I think the only time I really spoke up was when a guy told me how he fed his dog chocolate which is a big no-no. But you’re right. We don’t eat healthy 100% of the time and there’s no harm in a little indulgence.
